Re: Schools Cup 2010

2nd round matches scheduled for Saturday. Any predictions and is there any team involved which may spring a surprise or two?

Re: Schools Cup 2010

I think everyone would agree with that. It only puts pressure on a team at the end of the season when it comes to the Cup and can stifle its playing style a la MCB last year who with those backs should have been throwing the ball about an awful lot more than they did.

Re: Schools Cup 2010

And I wasn't having a go at you in any way. Just a comment to show how confusing the whole system is. I think they are trying to start to identify players earlier by the RDS U17 squad system although as I understand it not everyone including MCB nominate players for those squads.

Re: Schools Cup 2010

fuzzylogic writes " Who you know is all important, Davy Wells reccomending his out half to the Ulster schools selectors is going to carry a lot more weight than a Dalriada History teacher whos coaching his first rugby team reccmonding his out half." The irony is Davy Wells doesn't recommen...

Re: Ignorant behaviour on the terrace

I don't think " Ulster till I die " (which I heard last night) refers only to supporting a football/rugby team. I believe it is intended to have connotations beyond that and iIwould certainly prefer if it wasn't used at Ravenhill.

Re: Ignorant behaviour on the terrace

It's getting more and more like a football match including some of the chants which are intended to be taken more than with reference to the team.

Re: Schools Cup 2009

Agree with Bruce. I cannot believe how the Inst 9 got away with his actions just before and during the fight. Watch it in slo mo. He takes the MCB 7 out with a kick to the knee off the ball (he is then carried off and in danger of missing Irish schools stuff apparently) and then knees their 6 in the...

Re: A Pack of Flankers!

If the law variations are to be retained then the very least the lawmakers need to do is require referees to be very strict on crooked put ins. There were times on Tuesday I had to admire the Inst No. 8's hooking skills. I could count on the fingers of one hand the number of penalties I have seen fo...

Re: A Pack of Flankers!

Yes and the other thing is that the Referees seem to actually penalise those props who are dominant and protect the weaker guys e.g. for not driving straight when it is quite clear that this is not the case. You seldom see a penalty against someone standing up in the scrum when they can't take the p...

Re: A Pack of Flankers!

Good point well made fly half. I think whay you are getting at is the law variation which restricts a scrum advancing more than 1.5 metres. During the final you could hear the ref telling Methody to hold the push especially on the Inst put in.If he hadn't who knows what would have happened to the In...
