Re: Declan Kidney – the amazing diminishing rugby coach

So D/L - Of the REALISTIC options, who do you think should get the job??? I'm delighted that Schmidt got the job, a little surprised he took it, given what he had said previously, but great news IMO. I would have been happy with Ewan McKenzie getting the job - or a DoR type like O'Shea, McCall (or ...

Re: USA v Ireland

I am currently east coast of the states, so at least I got the match at 8.30 pm, rather than waiting up all night - even so I was regretting bothering.. Cack match, and I must say I thought pretty poor reffing - among other things, offside was basically ignored, so the US blitz was on top of the Iri...

SUFTUM in Hanoi???

just passing through, to send a couple of PMs before, with abominable timing I leave London and go a travelling for 3 months, the very fecking weekend when 3 Irish sides head to London for European fixtures :duh: ># I'll find myself in Hanoi this weekend, bit of a long shot but would anyone have any...

Re: Big Merv's furrin fillum thread :)

I just watched an absolute cracker of a furrin fillum - The Hunt, starring that chap Mikkelson (?) with the funny lips. Scandi drama, about a teacher accused (falsely) of molesting a child, and the fallout - absolutely brilliant all the way to the last scene..

Re: Declan Kidney – the amazing diminishing rugby coach

When EOS was deposed, I must say my preference was for replacing him with an outsider, someone like Jake White or Pat Howard, who would come in and look at things with fresh eyes, and try to change the mindset and parochialism of Irish rugby. I wasn’t that convinced by the choice of Kidney, but was...

Re: International Teams order of preference

I'd go for: Ireland France Argentina Australia Samoa Scotland England South Africa New Zealand Wales (there isn't much between the last 3 or 4..) As to which intl jersey I'd wear - I've got a Tonga shirt, depending on how nice the shirt is I'd happily wear French or Argentina, or any of the island s...

Re: 12/13 Ulster Academy

As far the numbers in ''the Academy'' is concerned , my understanding is that UR is adopting the 2 tier approach of the other Provinces - ie the first tier is where players coming out of school/youth rugby will enter a Sub Academy type structure where they will receive various supports but probably...

Re: Some IRFU rune-reading...

Being far too simplistic here D/L. The Welsh have their players spread around rather than concentrated in a couple of teams therefore of course their teams are going to be weaker. This is actually not the case - look at the current Welsh squad, 36 names of which 31 come from Ospreys, Scarlets or Ca...

Re: Declan Kidney – the amazing diminishing rugby coach

When someone as perennially gloomy as Phil Matthews is saying that the opposition is there for the taking, you know you're onto a winner. And in the worst 40 minute performance I think I have ever seen by a Saffa team, that was the least that could have been said. Second half - joke. Absolute joke o...

When I get time, I'll check what % of academy players have gone on to pro contracts for previous systems.

Re: Some IRFU rune-reading...

Ireland lack quality players?  QUICK someone tell the ERC that they've been somehow tricked into handing Irish teams the HEC 5 times in the last 7 years!!! Ireland have plenty of good quality players, playing for good quality teams - easily as many as Australia and more relevantly...

Re: Ulster Ravens vs Bridgend Ravens

Realistically, what are the chances of Cochrane overtaking Bowe, Trimble and Gilroy in a HEC team? Pretty slim, unless there are lots of injuries. He is really battling it out to be fourth choice winger with Allen, and Allen is 2 years younger and can play at centre as well. If he takes the chance ...
