In Defence of Schmidt, Ireland's RWC and where to now?
Long time gone but thought I'd make a reappearance after some of the absolute muck I have seen written by some of our not so esteemed southern journalist's, Ruadri O'''Connor and the absolute spanner who writes for Joe.ie in particular. I'd start by saying yes it was an incredibly disappointing RWC ...

Re: Pack for next season...
I couldn't give a fiddlers f**k how many tackles Diack makes or misses CI. I also don't want this to seem overly personal against you, I assure you it is not, but he's largely pointless. Squad filler against an Italian side or maybe Edinburgh/Dragons ok, anyone else? No thanks. Tackles are judged as...

Re: In Les Kiss I Trust
I'm not a huge fan of either but I do feel it is unfair to lump the chuckle brothers together. Doak is by all accounts a very good one on one technical coach. He just got promoted to a job he cant do, let him do what he does best and he should stay ... as for the other one, you're asking the wrong ...

Re: Pack for next season...
I a world where all things are equal you'd say that if Donnan is good enough he will get his chance with Ulster however I simply cannot say that with any real confidence with the current coaching staff, namely Clarke, who has shown time and time again to pick his favourites if allowed to go unchecke...

Re: Pack for next season...
Not if if we want to win play-off semi finals/finals or the Super Duper. He's also unquestionably soft, both mentally and physically. At this stage it's not even up for debate IMO.
Really, really nice guy by the way but you know the oft trotted out line about where nice guys finish...

Re: Pack for next season...
He wasn't saft on Friday but he's been the subject of a mild to moderate dose of derision from these parts and I believe, though could possibly be wrong, some idiot even have the temerity to suggest Diack was actually a better player than him.

Re: Pack for next season...
I think Friday night was a bit of a reality check for many, or if it wasn't it bloody well should be. The fact we are having to play Reidy at 8 instead of letting him compete directly with Henry is an acute indictment of exactly where we are. On a greasy track Henderson was our only carrier of high ...

Re: Leinster Vs Ulster Friday 20th May 7.45pm Sky / TG4 / BB
The idea of going to the metaphorical well is an interesting one. I noted in a recent newspaper article O'Gara was using the metaphor and explained that POC, more than most, was able to get that little bit out of his charges than the average bear due to his well documented abilities as a leader. He ...

Re: Leinster Vs Ulster Friday 20th May 7.45pm Sky / TG4 / BB
Our weaknesses and strengths are well know. If we can scrape parity up front we will cause them serious problems in the backs. If they get the ascendancy up front players like McGrath and Ross should get over the like of Black and Lutton we will genuinely struggle. Luckily we've managed to get away ...

Re: Ospreys vs Ulster Sat 7th May 15:00 SS1
Last few weeks have been a real joy to behold. Forwards still aren't good enough to do damage in Europe but seem to be capable of holding their own in the Pro12. Backs and our all round continuity play is excellent. Intelligent attack lines, good support, improved rucking speed and intensity, it's a...

Re: Medical Joker?
I think Reidy has had quite a useful season and I say that as someone who has been a fairly vocal critic of his. I would caution the idea he's a long term 8 though he did an excellent job at the weekend. I guess I'm concerned one swallow does not a spring make. That said it was an incredibly effecti...

Re: Lets say Nucifora strikes
After the humbling we just gave a Leinster side that provided a good deal more players to the Irish side during the 6N than we did you could imagine it's only a matter of time before Saint Joe starts feeling some heat to play Payne at 15, Trimble back to the Wing and one of McCloskey, Marshall or Ol...

A good maul is a thing to behold. Haven't seen many at Ravenspan in the past season or two.
