Re: Ulster v Exeter 22nd August
All said I would rather be the Ulster coaching team after last night than the Exeter one. Definitely.. I was actually pretty disappointed with Exeter, I thought after the first 10 or 15 they might take the game away from us, but they seemed to get lost and didn't really show anything much until the...

Re: Any word on the Academy?
Lot of thinking, little knowing. Is Jackson living on thin air to train all week with the seniors? McCall was on a development contract this season just past and if Simpson didn't get a development deal last season (he was meant to) he will be on one for the incoming season. Jackson has never been ...

Re: Any word on the Academy?
I thought somebody had to play for ulster before getting 'an in fairness to'? I have nothing against Trenier but the idea of signing up Leinster players at the expense of our own, especially when the local is at the very least a similar level, doesn't sit overly well with me personally. in fairness...

Re: Emerging Ireland
In the absence of any decent coverage and based on what I've read, Copeland seems to be the most significant talent to emerge. From an Ulster perspective, Gilroy and Marshall both seem to have had good tournaments and McCloskey also managed to get himself noticed. I doubt Copeland was actually the ...

Re: The 16th man effect (or in Ulster's case 15th man)
23,000 was the number I heard when this was first talked about, that was seats and terrace the same as the rest. Perhaps if they terraced the entire corners it would get up to 26k ? I seem to remember that number as well - in fact last Thursday Logie said that if there was sustained demand, they ha...

Re: Any word on the Academy?
Ternier has joined Hinch today according to rumours Great so Ulster Rugby are signing Leinster props who didn't start for Ireland U-20's whilst letting an Ulster prop who demolished the baby black pack leave Irish shores....makes a whole lot of sense. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk In fairness ...

unquestionably - it looks cack, the mobile version is dire, the quality of the stats and match reports is poor, and the squad listings are slapdash and untimely..Kofi Annan wrote:We have an Academy. Any one else think that UR website is bottom of the website interpro?

Re: Any word on the Academy?
Logan said the other day that Ulster would have 55 contracted players, of which 34 are on full-time pro contracts, with the remainder (i.e. 19) academy or development. If this year is like the last few, we'll have quite a long wait until the (diabolical) Ulster website is updated with next year's sq...

Re: Leinster 2013/14
Sad news indeed about O'Malley, fine young player too.. It's very hard to know what to expect from Leinster, Sexton, Nacewa and (most importantly?) Schmidt are huge losses. That said, it's still a pretty mean squad, and I think McCarthy and Gopperth are both excellent bits of business. It could be a...

Re: Expectations/Dreams for the new season
Over the summer I was reading Soccernomics, which is a half-decent look at some of the economics of football, and I have yet to finish it, but in amongst all the clever-clever stuff, the thing that struck me most was a mention in passing that the truest barometer of a side’s strength is its league p...

Re: B&I Lions 2013 Thread
I'm not sure whether I believe that Phillips is fully fit, but rested. He was terrible last week, and in the immediate aftermath of the match I would have dropped him in a heartbeat - however thinking about it since, I think he was partly victim of a poor initial selection by Gatland. If you think o...

Re: One F
Delighted he's staying here but undoubtedly given the contract term, its been awarded more on the basis of hope than expectation. I agree - in fact, maybe I was in a particularly pessimistic mood when I read the article, but once I got past the 'Ferris re-signs for Ulster' headline, it quickly beca...

Re: Teams up...
Two good teams. If the weather holds up, and it is supposed to be nice tomorrow, this could be a great game especially for neutral viewers. The most important thing for Ulster is that every player must commit to 100% endeavour and intensity. My view is that Leinster will expect to win in the RDS, d...

Re: Ulster V Leinster: Unit by unit
ATH - excellent summary :salut: Not much to add - the only area I would differ from you is back 3, granted Nacewa is one of the best around, and comfortably the equal of the Ulster boys, but I'd have Trimble and Bowe a good furlong ahead of McFadden, and Payne a nose ahead of Kearney... I think if w...

Re: SCORE PREDICTIONS FOR SATURDAY
I'm calling it for Ulster - I generally have some kind of conviction behind my predictions, which is to say I have a feeling in my gut one way or the other, which I can then investigate and tease out my whys and wherefores; but if I'm being honest, this time I'm just calling for Ulster almost by def...
