Re: Ulster Squad 2019/20

To be honest, it's hard to see Jordi getting a place at Leinster with the younger guys now in the back row for us like Doris and Deegan. Dan Leavy is making a big effort to come back too. Conan in the mix too. Jordi will stay in Belfast unless he gets a big offer from France and he has given up on ...

Re: In Defence of Schmidt, Ireland's RWC and where to now?

well the snippets of his book that are cropping up in the media are pretty mind-blowing, the emperor really didn't have any kecks on. An example, he reckons they might have lost against Japan because he thinks the players didn't take him seriously enough when he was telling him what a good side they...

Re: AIL 2019/2020

Tom Stewart looks like a cracking player - great athlete, he looks quite slender, but very strong, definitely one to watch..

Re: Ulster v Clermont

Bookies have Clermont as favourites, I'm not so sure. Played each other four times, all four wins going with the home team. Any Ulster team with Henderson and Coetzee starting have a better than even chance at home in my opinion. Ulster have won 10 of their last 12 home games against French opposit...

Re: Bath v Ulster

I reckon Ludik comes onto the wing, and Gilroy or Faddes to 23, I think Ludik is our best bet to try to contain Raka..

Up front I personally would start AOC, I thought he had a class match against Bath, Treads on the bench for a bit of impact. Presumably Warwick on the bench at 17

Re: Connacht 2019/20

Awesome from Connacht, 16 players out injured, are they training on concrete down there or something?? They actually wasted a couple of opportunities and Carty didn't have a great day.

Conway continues to show the questionable selection policy in the Ireland set up.
No doubt he's the form winger in Ireland by a distance at the minute.. Great result for Munster :thumleft:

Re: Bath v Ulster

good away performance. Defensive system seems to have come on nicely since last year, we're looking well connected and physical, that said the defence for their try was terrible, dreadful tackle attempt by Addison and Lyttle didn't work anywhere near hard enough to cover back. Also the last play was...

Re: AIL 2019/2020

I've caught a couple of "Energia AIL" games, has made grim watching for the most part - I watched Hinch get beaten at home by Terenure and UCD (in fairness two reasonably close games, which Hinch just couldn't quite get on top and squeeze out a victory), however much better on Saturday when they wal...

Re: Munster v Ulster Sat 5:15pm

I thought it was a reasonably encouraging performance - definitely glass half-full IMO. And in fairness I haven't watched it back, I couldn't do that to myself, so these were my 'live' impressions. To start with the bad - handling errors killed us, and our lineout misfired a few times, and in genera...

Re: Connacht 2019/20

It’s also fair to say that the coach isn’t doing badly, notwithstanding the stick he got when he was linked with the Ulster hot seat. True - I include myself there.. Mind you - what a hoking! Yes they have a load of injuries, and Leinster were pretty class, but it was a pretty disappointing perform...

Re: London Irish 2019/2020

yes PJ at 15 the last couple of games, I think it's because they want Myler in to kick goals.. Great result for Irish, I have to say I didn't really see them as automatic demotion favourites as they were widely talked about, a pretty solid side with some quality still to come in.. Some big names in ...

Connacht 2019/20

Just noticed that the Westies don't have their own thread - they've had a class start to the season, probably the most impressive Irish province so far. Adeolokun and Farrell in great nick, Peter Robb looking good, Conor Fitzgerald looks like a useful player. The only shame is Paddy Mac's injury - h...

Re: Ulster v Zebre Friday 1st Nov 7:35pm

Hmm yes I wasn't there on Friday, but I didn't really enjoy the Cardiff game - atmosphere wasn't great, agree with the general sentiment about the music etc. There's a bit of the 'enforced jollity' of party games at a work Christmas do about it.. It'll be interesting to see if it picks up when the E...

Re: Munster 2019/20

Two great signings if they come off.

Delighted to see the IRFU still feverishly trying to bail out the loan-defaulters

Anyway on a rugby front, they've looked pretty good I think - good performance on Friday, including a couple of lovely tries..
