Re: Autobiographies

Read Doddie's book, one of life's good guys, irrespective of the MND, so sad that the last chapter still has to be written in this book but I have a feeling it will take a while, given his spirit, and in the meantime is putting his heart and soul into his Foundation to do something rather than sit b...

Re: Autobiographies

[quote]You wonder what sort of a player Cavanagh could have been for Ulster had he played rugby, possibly might have been an outhalf or centre, but that level of intensity and drive would have been Sexton-esque for us. He seems to have been a phenomenal athlete, but also (likingly) prone to a passio...

Autobiographies

I read several sports autobiographies every year, standard family gifts mostly, and find it very interesting to see the variance from the more mundane ones, which can even be somewhat boring, basically listing out career achievements with some embellishments, to the ones where the author opens up an...

Re: Bluenoses vs Ulster

I can’t see what benefit any young Ulster player got from that tbh. Reviewing the last two weeks I again take my hat off to Connacht, they played strong sides in all 3 games and gave it a real lash, great to watch, yet on paper did the same as Ulster with two losses and a win (probably got more BPs ...

Re: Will he stay or will he go?

Well wide of the mark D4, Joe is very much respected in these parts. My own anecdote is that he spoke at one of our senior management conferences. I didn't make the cut to attend teh event but the feedback from colleagues was that he was inspirational, proof in the age of Trump that you do not have ...

Re: Munster 17/18

Great weekend's rugby, shame Connacht couldn't seal the deal (apparently, according to Thornley, just making the semis would have gotten them through to the Champions Cup because the other three will qualify through the league), and we pushed Bedford close as well!!! Half agree with all the comments...

Re: Oh look, the truth about Ulster

Refreshing article. Entirely coincidentally I am halfway through reading Tome English's book 'No Borders' that my son-in-law lent me, jeez how interesting to read the honesty of the aul hans from these parts: Gibson, Patterson, Irwin,Matthews, Carr, McCoy, Davidson etc etc, the Ulster dominance in t...

Re: Wasps Vs Ulster Sun 21/01/18 BT Sport

Well that went well! Positives: The yellow and blue boots looked ever so good in the mud, great photos. Any fans that were in that awful looking stadium, soulless, bare, freezing and wet, fairplay to you all - put a new meaning to being sent to Coventry!! Negatives: We don't ever win the games that ...

Re: Leinster v Ulster Sat 5:35pm BBC2NI/Sky Sports/TG4

Three derbies, aggregate score For: 46, Against: 99, bottom Province. In five out of six halves we were 'boys against men', with apologies to boys everywhere! Free stadium (for me the best, taking into account all factors, in the game at this level),pretty much full houses guaranteed. Because I real...

Re: Lions Tour of NZ 2017

Saturday will tell all and I fear its a fortnight too soon, but if by any chance it turns out to be a winning Lion's series, Rory's contribution, if it does turn out to be as the midweek captain, may well be seen as the most crucial of the whole tour, and he is only an injury away from getting the c...

Re: Lions Tour of NZ 2017

In three tests it is highly likely that 5-6 back rowers will be required so don't see the issue, they'll all be needed and even if you look at the first test alone, 50 minutes of Warburton playing (he is squad captain) and 30 minutes of O'Brien doesn't sound too shabby, I stand to be corrected but w...

Re: Lions Tour of NZ 2017

I'm with Shan on this, I'm Rory's biggest fan, he made a huge difference in the scrums but (again) that really critical 5 metre throw in in the last five minutes in a one score game is turned over, Rory would be the first to say it, take it on the chin and move on! Also Itoje and Sinckler, some play...

Re: Munster 16/17

Wayne Pivac quoted as encouraging other teams to adopt the fast, exciting, off loading, ruck agression game. What does he know, give me pirouttes and macciata lattes any day compared to that crap! No seriously, what we need is to recruit a kiwi coach, ok he might only get to a EC quarter final in hi...
