Re: Photos of players for Wikipedia?

Yeah, those guys already have photos on Wikipedia - probably the same ones you found. The only players in the current squad who have photos are Sam Carter (with Australia), Jordi Murphy (with Ireland), Duane Vermeulen (with the Boks), Billy Burns (in a coat on the sidelines, probably with Gloucester...

Re: drop goals

Taking a mark is usually a bad move. You usually take it in the corner so you have no angle to kick for touch and you're unlikely to get any distance (especially if you're Rob Lyttle), and you don't get the lineout so you're just giving the opposition possession in a decent attacking position. It's ...

Positions - how do you decide?

Question from a relative newbie for anyone who's ever coached rugby. I know that tighthead prop and loosehead prop are different positions, players specialise as one or the other, and it's very rare these days for one player to play both positons. I know that, because of the way the scrum is set up,...

Photos of players for Wikipedia?

I've been doing a bit of work trying to improve the coverage of Ulster Rugby on Wikipedia. It'd be nice to illustrate some of the articles with photos, but pretty much all the photos I've been able to find online are from commercial photographers and are not available for use on Wikipedia for copyri...

Re: Ulster v Munster Friday April 22 7:35pm KO BBC2NI / RTE2 / Premier Sports 2 / URC TV / Super Sport

Relieved not to see Tadhg Beirne on the Munster team - he was the best player on the pitch in the away tie. No Peter O'Mahony either. Decent Ulster lineup. Our best tight five starting. We'll miss big Duane in the back row, but we're a better team all round than we were last year when Coetzee wasn't...

Re: Ulster v Toulouse Sat Apr 16 8pm KO BT Sport 2

One thing I think is a sign of progress. Last season, when Marcell Coetzee left and John Cooney got injured, the wheels fell off our season, which suggests they were carrying us to an unhealthy level. Duane Vermeulen was signed to replace Coetzee, but he didn't actually arrive until November, and Co...

Re: Stormers v Ulster Saturday March 26 1pm (UK Time) Super Sport (SA) / Premier Sports 1 / URC TV (Not in UK/SA)

My take. Reid lost the ball before he was able to ground it, because a Stormers defender knocked it out of his hands. It didn't go forward from Reid's hands, it did go forward off the Stormers defender's hand, but I don't think you can call a knock-on from a rip, so no infringment, the ball's still ...

Re: Ulster v Leinster Saturday March 12th 7:35pm KO Premier Sports 1 & TG4

My prediction for the lineup, assuming we don't get any of our Ireland players back: 1. Warwick, 2. Andrew, 3. M Moore 4. A O'Connor, 5 Carter 6. Marcus Rea, 7. Murphy, 8. Vermeulen 9. Cooney, 10. Burns 11. Moxham, 12. McCloskey, 13. S. Moore, 14. Gilroy 15. Lyttle 16. Roberts, 17. McGrath, 18. Mila...

Re: Beeb Best Bowe

I've watched most of the episodes, but I find it a bit lightweight, and a bit insular. It's a problem with the northern rugby media in general - it barely acknowledges other teams exist (and most of the Irish rugby media covers both provinces, Leinster and Munster, so at least we're better off than ...

Re: Dragons v Ulster Sunday February 20th 2pm Premier Sports 1

Interesting team selection. Young back row, with Timoney as captain and number 8, McCann on the blindside and Marcus Rea on the openside. No Vermeulen, No O'Connor or McIlroy, who I don't think have missed a game this season. McIlroy wasn't right against Connacht, may have been injured, or may just ...

Re: Ulster v Connacht Friday February 4 8:15pm KO BBC2NI / TG4 / Premier Sports 1

I like McIlroy. Very dependable, great covering tackler, great under the high ball, good sidestep, doesn't stop running. He wasn't right last night. He might have had a knock, but I'm pretty sure he's started every game this season, and he doesn't get subbed very often, so I think he's just exhauste...

Re: Ulster v Connacht Friday February 4 8:15pm KO BBC2NI / TG4 / Premier Sports 1

Didn't make it easy for ourselves at times, but a good win. Thanks IRFU for letting us have Baloucoune, Lowry and Timoney back. Energetic debut from Declan Moore. Not the finished item, but looks like a useful signing, and should make up for losing Roberts. McIlroy looked a bit out of sorts - I thin...

Re: F¥cking disgraceful bbc

The big point I think is that Paddy was never first choice 10 for Ireland. He was one of Sexton's backups. Given Sexton's fagility and his form for London Irish he'd probably be first choice now if not for off-field matters, but spilt milk. Never going to happen now, just like John Cooney's never go...

Hume sole Ulsterman in Ireland 23, wearing the 23 shirt. Henderson not fit enough yet. FIRFU I reckon they've done us a favour for once. They've released Lowry, Baloucoune and Timoney to us for tomorrow, but they haven't let Jack Carty go back to Connacht. No internationals the weekend we play Drag...
