Re: Alex Popham

Personally, I'd like to see 2 top class flankers come into the side. Dawson and Pollock are grand at Magners level, but if we want to compete in europe we need a top notch 7. All to often, PW and Trimble make a half break but there's no-one on their shoulder. A mobile 7 with good hands is definitely...

Re: Positives and Negatives: Ulster Vs Scarlets

Amen indeed, the 1st 40 wins was the most professional performance given by Ulster for years. Tactically brilliant. Although in saying that, I thought the Scarlets could have used the gale more to their advantage. Our pack have increased their intensity 10-fold. PLayers like Caldwell and Ferris are ...

aye - totally agree about the subs. Those guys needed to come on 10-15 mins earlier!! Made a big impression when they did appear though!

Positives and Negatives: Ulster Vs Scarlets

Positives, - big improvements in the basics - scrum was solid, lineout superb (Rory's throwing was outstanding) and defence was good for long spells. - Ferris is a beast and should be locked up - I've slated the decision to play Mat at 6, but tonight it came off, a very solid display. - Caldwell is ...

Re: Team v Llanelli

with it blowing a gale, I'd have fancied cunningham at 15. Also we could have done with Besty making a few big hits. No doubt Nial and PW will be in for a long night with ball carriers charging at them. That said, expect Ferris and Caldwell to be seeing plenty of ball!!

Re: Comedy Gold

to be honest I ain't that impresssed by reddan. I think he's suspect under pressure and hasn;t really offered Ireland the extra dimension that we hoped. I think stringer can offer something in certain games and I'd be inclined to start him for Wales - certainly for 50 mins.

Re: "good young players who are being held out"

another rediculous statement by comical eddie. we're 4 years from a RWC and the mad man isn't blooding any young guns - rather sticking with the same old heads. :cowboy:

Stready Eddie rarely admits he is wrong. I fully expect Best to be dropped with Flannery starting at 2.

Re: France Vs England

England know their strengths and weeknesses. No point playing flash rugby in the French back yard. They played percentage rugby, kicked their points and defended like hell. Perhaps at Twickenham they can try to be more expansive. However, as they showed at the RWC, an efficient perentage game can qu...

Re: France Vs England

I think a lot of people are getting carried away with Ireland's performance. A poor Scotish side dominated almost the entire 1st half at croke park. If they had had anyone remotely potent in attack we would have been trailing at half time. The intensity of the game was non-existant and is no marker ...

Re: France Vs England

Yeah, I take your point - France did'nt really try to mix things up. Apart from a couple of up and unders, it was a case of throwing the ball wide. But that was partly a function of Englands dominence up front. England contested the set piece and slowed ball at the breakdown. In the Ireland game, th...

Re: France Vs England

'i thought it wasn't a great game, certainly nowhere near the incisiveness of finishing of the other 2 matches' I think that's because this game was actually competitive! The intensity of the game of on another level altogether. Scotland and Italy just were not at the races at all. France played at ...

Re: France Vs England

we still have 2 rounds to go. If wales win both games, they have the title. If teams are tied on points to goes down to points difference. Current table: Wales 3 3 0 0 103 42 6 2 Ireland 3 2 0 1 71 50 4 3 France 3 2 0 1 66 51 4 4 England 3 2 0 1 66 58 4 5 Italy 3 0 0 3 38 86 0 6 Scotland 3 0 0 3 34 ...

Re: France Vs England

Cracking game, great atmosphere and top-notch intensity. Thought the French would have offered more in attack but the England scrum changed the game.

This blows the championship wide open. I expect Ireland to just about beat Wales, and England to beat Scotland. What a final weekend!
