Re: Humphreys legacy; a failure in recruitment and successio

You miss the point sir it's the role which is important in open play not the number . But the role can only be played from the openside and that is traditionally the number 7, unless you were wearing alphabetical letters from back in the day. opensides can be developed, henry wasnt a natural opensi...

Re: Roger Wilson signs new two-year contract with Ulster

Interestingly in June 2017 all three of Diack, Henry and Wilson are out of contract.
Wilson will be 35, Henry will be 32 and Diack 31.

Re: Humphreys legacy; a failure in recruitment and successio

Wilson is good back up though rum, in the same way Leinster use Jennings. Have to disagree about 7 not being a role if by that you refer to openside. You say about recycling the ball but how do you recycle a ball without a decent openside? At 7 you are open and generally first forward of your team ...

Re: Roger Wilson signs new two-year contract with Ulster

Fairly obvious move.. need to start developing a replacement for him, hopefully that player is in the academy in either Dow or Taggart. Wilson will more than likely retire after this extension as he will be nearly 36 at the end of it. By then Taggart will be 22 and will hopefully ready to step up, a...

Re: Humphreys legacy; a failure in recruitment and successio

Rumoured down south that Dougal is headed north after the season. On Leinster I can't see Ruddock ever actually wearing 7 for them but they do have 4 senior squad members who could play 7 - Jennings, SOB, Ryan and Murphy. Along with two lads in the academy who can play there - Leavy/Van Der Flier. B...

Re: UAFC Ask the Opposition - Munster

Fairly typical replies from, typically negative on Schmidt because of his leinster ties, think Stander is some sort of world class 8(granted he is certainly good), back foley to the hilt as he is a munster man, standard replies regarding limerick/cork divide(its a real issue). Stander will be a wor...

Re: Humphreys legacy; a failure in recruitment and successio

Biggest problem has been the inability to develop homegrown forwards consistently enough, especially backrow players but also props. Props Kyle McCall - moved to hooker and disappeared. Conor Cleary - released, moved to championship. Paddy McAllister - injury problems slowed progress, moved to franc...

Re: Not the Ulster Ravens

Genuine question. What do Munster and Leinster do re A Team, Academy and AIL players? I note that in one strange instance we opted for Dave Ryan at TH, Lutton at LH whilst McCall played for Hinch? Whilst Warwick did well in his cameo against Leinster last season it was the season before McCall anno...

Re: Not the Ulster Ravens

Looking at leinster's A team last week 1. Ian Prendiville(23) - AIL prop, called up due to injury problems in senior squad. 2. Aaron Dundon(32) - solid dependable squad member recently overtaken in senior squad by academy graduates, likely to retire after this season. 3. Royce Burke Flynn(27) - AIL ...

Re: Not the Ulster Ravens

What ever happened to Currymyyoghurt Murphy? Kinda thought O'Hagan might get some time for the Ravens too. Jonny Murphy? playing for Ballynahinch anyway. Surprising to see Bingham ahead of O'Hagan alright. was O'Hagan fit? he was fit for Queens two weekends ago, so unless he picked up something in ...

Re: Not the Ulster Ravens

Bayern, what would you suggest to improve a ravens team, I am sure there is some better players in AIL , but that's not helping the Academy players, or is it time some of the AIL players got a second chance. i'm not sure, more young players who are hungrier and don't view the ravens as a step down ...
