Re: 6 Nations 2023

Jack Carty's pretty good at managing games on the back foot.

Re: Any word on the Academy?

With Leinster receiving so much talent at underage, where do they all go? When is the last time we got some high quality, sloppy seconds from them? They are a disgrace, ffs. Jokeshop. You mean like Marty Moore Eric O'Sullivan Alan O'Connor Nick Timoney Jordi Murphy Greg Jones Dave Shanahan John Coo...

Re: 6 Nations 2023

Other than Cooney I don't think there's anyone at Ulster currently unjustly excluded from the Ireland squad (although I think Marcus Rea should probably have gone on the Emerging Ireland tour). Baloucoune should be playing regularly for Ireland, but that would require him to be consistently fit, and...

Re: Ulster V Stormers Friday 27th 7.35pm

I don't think Carter's ever been as bad as some on this board think. He's a good, reliable pro. I think the expectation that an NIQ signing should automatically be a better class of player than the local boys has hurt him in the eyes of fans. The old gap between the southern and northern hemispheres...

Re: Ulster V Stormers Friday 27th 7.35pm

Ala’alatoa ha played more games for Furlong this season. The only lock that has played more than Jenkins this year is Moloney. Jenkins is first choice when fit. Nagatai has played more than any other centre this season. Fekitoa has played more than any other centre for Munster this season. Stats fr...

Re: Ulster V Stormers Friday 27th 7.35pm

Leinster's current NIQs are Vakh Abdaladze, Michael Ala'alatoa, Jason Jenkins and Charlie Ngatai. None of them would be first choice in their positions. Munster's current NIQs are RG Snyman and Malakai Fekitoa. You could argue that Snyman would be first on the team sheet if fit, but when's he ever b...

Re: Ulster V Stormers Friday 27th 7.35pm

I can definitely see the logic of both arguments here. I’d love to see JTA get a contract, but NIQ’s should be the first names on the team sheet. I don’t know what the correct answer is. That's not how we use NIQs these days. in the 2016-17 season we had Franco van der Merwe, Marcell Coetzee, Ruan ...

Re: Ulster Signings

Hope it's no more than a rumour. I agree with StandUp, he's probably the best finisher we have, with the possible exception of Rob Baloucoune, and he deserves more game time for Ulster.

Re: 6 Nations 2023

I think the Ireland coaches probably just want to have a look at Jacob up close. His central contract is up soon, and they seem to be giving him a chance to convince them it might be worth renewing it, which I think is pretty decent of them. We'll see if they keep him during the tournament or let us...

Re: La Rochelle v Ulster (if you can’t be arsed to come to the game you can at least look up the TV details yourselves)

We wuz robbed. While we were on their try line, they gave away penalty after penalty until they got a yellow card, and then more penalties, which they completely got away with. Don't understand how they got the ball and it didn't go back for one of the several penalty advantages we supposedly had. E...

Re: Benetton v Ulster Saturday January 7 1pm KO (UK Time) Viaplay (Premier) Sports 1 / URC TV / Super Sport

As far as Ben Healy's concerned, I don't blame him. He's been one of the regular provincial out-halves for the last few seasons, and Ireland have tried out literally everybody but him - Jack Carty, the Byrne brothers at Leinster and Billy Burns have all had a go, and they picked Frawley and Crowley ...

Lowry went off for an HIA against Connacht and didn't come back on, so he would have been in the head bin for Munster.

Re: TRANSFER RUMOURS!!

One big problem is, since the four SA teams joined, the league has become more competitive, and there aren't so many low stakes games where you can afford to experiment. We need to play a strong team even against softer opposition, to make sure we get maximum points and don't slip in the table. Line...

Also, collapsing in the last ten minutes was something we did last year too.
