Re: Magners League Fixtures

Have to say I love the way the first 5 fixtures are. The first two are great opportunities to win in Wales, which would be great for McLaughlin to achieve right off the bat. Then this is followed by 3 eminently winnable games to help build the confidence. Couldn't ask for a better first 5 fixtures i...

Re: No more new players this season.

I can see no reason why Ulster can't be the kings of Europe within 5-10 years, they have the fan support, a much higher pool of players to take from school than most. What they have been missing is the financial resources and through improving the stadium and marketing much much better we could sort...

Re: No more new players this season.

I really don't think it is too bad a thing we don't have any more new players for this season. We have little idea how good the players are that we have, last season there was no coherent on field strategy and direction. With a bit of direction and structure, plus the fact the guys are a year older,...

Re: Johnny foreigners

I think the only difference is that Ulster is a quasi country in terms of Northern Ireland. When I hear the Munster players or even the All Blacks players talking they talk about representing their communities and pride in the jersey and so on. I think the big thing that produces long term pride in ...

Re: McLaughlin IS the new coach of Ulster

Have to say all in all I'm pretty pleased. Having someone as well known around the world as Humph should enable us to recruit players who would never have heard of McLaughlin. I like the fact that McLaughlin has done a good bit of coaching with schoolkids, Ulster does seem to have talent coming thro...

Re: The plot thickens

I think one standard business practise is when you are recruiting don't narrow your interviews down to 1 at an early stage, as this gives them the leverage. Playing the two off against each other you can usually negotiate a better deal. This may have been what UR were trying to do, but they appear t...

Re: The plot thickens

It's very much a case of success breeding success, the more wins you get the more money you get, attracting better crowds and players and so on. At the minute I feel we are a big of a middle of the road ML team, we attract better crowds than the Scottish teams, Connaught and some of the Welsh sides....

Re: Expectations 2009/10

I tend to feel it isn't wins and losses we should measure this coming season on. What I would like is for us to develop a consistent gameplan and a style of play, with the players playing as a team. We need consistency in selection of players, with the coaching staff developing their skills and hope...

Re: The plot thickens

I'm quite happy with him to be honest. It's all very well for people to want a world class coach, but we don't have the resources to pay for one, and even if we could secure ones signature they'd probably sod off again at the first sniff of a better job. McGloughlin has had nothing but sucess in am...

Re: Corporate boxes sold out

that is feckin unbelievable, for 2 reasons 1) well done ulster rugby and all involved in selling. to sell out in these times takes some doing. 2) however... The 20 high-spec Corporate Hospitality Boxes, with private balcony seating, located within the New Stand at Ravenhill, have now sold out, but ...

Re: Richard Hill to be appointed

Isn't really an appointment to get really excited about, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. I'm glad we have appointed someone who isn't a big name, and let's give him a few years to see how he fairs. What we need now is stability and continuity, ideally letting the likes of Whitten, Pollock an...

Re: Mike Reid & Co - time to deliver

At the end of the day we need more cash to compete, tickets prices need to go up by at least 25%, even then we would still be behind Leinster. If we want a competitive team that can get the likes of Elsom on the payroll the only way to do it is pay up, times are hard at present but we all need to d...

Re: New Coach

Would love us to go for a New Zealander, someone with good/great coaching experience in New Zealand. Looking at the names being put forward there isn't anyone who excites me that much. This really gets my goat. We hear a SANZAR accent and we all doff our caps. We need a good coach…accent irrelevant...

Re: Mike Reid & Co - time to deliver

I think there is a lack of accountability and transparency in Ulster Rugby. I don't get the impression there are clear lines of responsibility and I also don't feel UR communicates with it's supporters well enough. I think they could also improve their PR department and really promote the Ulster Rug...
