Re: New Scrum Half?

He has a bit of a physical presence about him not the stereotypical 5ft 5 terrier. The day of that kinda scrum half was drawing to a close around 15 years ago! Unfortunately we've persisted with them till now. They need to be 80kgs plus these days otherwise they are a non-entity in defence - regard...

Re: New Scrum Half?

I'm not especially fussed on Doak yet from what I've seen of him. In my mind he's another Conor Young, but I hope I'm wrong.

Re: New Scrum Half?

Am i missing something Re. Lewis Finlay? He has been very very good for Ireland U20s There is a vast chasm between U20 standard of play and the professional game. Though in Shanahan and Stewart we have players who didn't even deliver at that level. Shanahan didn't, but Stewart did he was involved w...

I can only assume it means both Shanners and Stewart are out the door - and Finlay's the youngster who'll be 3rd choice.
One would hope so.

Had forgotten about him, I take it he is not going to be an answer for us.
He seems to me another of these scrumhalves that Ulster tends to sign whose best position isn't scrumhalf.

Re: Ulster Squad 2019/20

McCall seemed to have more potential when he debuted but injuries seem to have some for his scrummaging almost entirely, where Warwick can scrum to an extent and can in a pinch cover both sides but is so limited in his other contributions about the pitch. Reid should be getting most of their gametim...

He was back in training prior to those games and had a set back, no reports on what the expected date now is for him.

Re: Munster Game

Paddy Power (Other bookies are available) have Ulster 3 points favourites for this one which is basically the home advantage. They are seeing the 2 23s as hard to split/sitting on the fence. There isn't an awful lot in it on paper. Munster will be relying on set piece ball and especially on the lin...

And we haven't even any decent scrumhalves to show from our dessicated youngsters until perhaps this batch of McKee, and Doak.

Re: Ulster Squad 2019/20

To digress Tom Stewart is the guy I'm most excited about, we seem to always produce hookers. Stewart seems to be a real talent, with him and McBurney starting to show what he's about we look like we're well set up! What's weird though is this Saffer schoolboy hooker we're supposedly bringing in rea...

Re: Ulster Squad 2019/20

The O'Donnell one is a mystery, I thought that he at would have at least featured in the Celtic Cup. I trust in the academy system at the minute though, to be honest. They're getting it right for the most part with respect to selecting players. I've seen the Australia highlights, he'd slipped my mi...

Re: Ulster Squad 2019/20

They include Addison, Reidy and Nordi. Stockdale will also be out of contract but will get an IRFU one. McGrath's IRFU contract will expire so we'll have to cough up to keep him. I'll have all five, please. Well it’s a big squad and he hasn’t been here very long. Andrew and Ross may be coming to th...

Re: Ulster Vs Harlequins Sat 7th Dec @ 15.15 BT Sport

What the devil are you sniffing? Agreed that Gilroy currently is way down there, but Lyttle is arguably our form winger prior to his injury. Stockdale is right down at the bottom with Faddes and Gilroy as well, just isn't at the races and is being picked on what he did last season rather than what ...
