pwrmoore wrote:When you think about the problem properly pythagoras you would realise that the trivial problem is actually not trivial at all. Each post is time-stamped with the server time of the host server and each user gets a view with an adjusted time based on their stated preference as selected in their control panel. The user is required to select their timezone as the host server really cannot satisfactorily deduce where the posts are being viewed.

You should also realise that the folks who run this message board are using an industry standard messageboard package which has been tailored to provide a UAFC look and feel. The same package is used by hundreds if not thousands of furums. As a result they are limited to the features of that package. If the messageboard package included an auto-adjust feature for Summer time then the option would be there for the users. As it doesn't those users who really care about getting a correct local time when they view a post need to make the small change to their selected time preference twice a year. It's really not that difficult to do.
But Paul, why bother?

Why do you hate progress?
I don't but it will not work for everyone hence the developers of the programme that runs the board do not include it.
What do you mean it will not work for everyone?
Teeny bit of javascript that checks the computer time zone and converts downloaded UTC date/time to that, how freaking hard can that be?
If the feature is in it will work if it isn't it won't.
Do you have to change your phone's time twice a year, your computer's? Ah shur it's trivial to do. If it was left to you we'd still need a crank to start the car.

Couldn't be arsed, that's lovely. What about your non-lazy posters, why are you wasting their time?
You've got 7 months till the next changover to save your thousands of users a cumulative of possibly hundreds of hours.
Why wouldn't you do that?

Now gents, no need to abuse the downtrodden working man in a ludicrous debate over the time setting on a forum

The fact that this nonissue has been raised makes me chortle quite loudly, indeed old missus Squires across the road appears concerned, as if she'd just heard a hippopotamus fart.

Py-Brennan, if there are so many simple ways of telling the time, such as your phone or computer, never mind that endlessly useful device, the watch, why do you think it essential that the time on a forum matters a jot? As I type I see the correct time in the corner of my computer screen, am I likely to miss a vital appointment because I grow confused over the mismatch of times at certain periods between the forum & the clock in the corner. Similarly on my iphone the same occurs.

Are you sure this doesn't result from a punctuality fetish or some other time related mental illness.Don't be shy, I'm very understanding, I'm a bit men'el meself
NEVER MOVE ON. Years on, I cannot ever watch Ireland with anything but indifference, I continue to wish for the imminent death of Donal Spring, the FIRFUC's executioner of Wee Paddy & Wee Stu, and I hate the FIRFUCs with undiminished passion.
