Bonus points

Post by ruckover »

Super Rugby are planning to adopt the Top14 system of scoring three more tries than your opponents for the try bonus point, replacing the traditional four tries for the bonus point. Unlike the Top14 they are maintaining seven points as the buffer for the losing bonus point, whereas in France it is just a five point buffer.

I assume it's only a matter of time before we see this new system adopted in the Pro12 too.
You haven't seen me at my best yet. Let's be honest, you probably never will.

The main difference between the current systems in the Pro 12 v Top 14 is that both teams in the Top 14 can't get a TBP. The losing team can only stop the other team from securing it by closing the gap in the try count to less than 3. In Europe this year - Ospreys have scored 4 tries away at Clermont and Bordeaux to get a TBP while the home team had already secured theirs. Under the Top 14 system, neither side would pick up a TBP as the gap in the try count was less than 3.

It does keep the winning side playing to the end v turning off/emptying the bench etc.
