Ulster Schools opened up their competitive season with a resounding victory over Lancashire Schools by 35-5. The half time score was 30-5 to Ulster with tries from Rory Campbell (2) RBAI,Rory Bell (1) RBAI and a penalty try. Aaron Kennedy kicked 2pens and 2 cons. The Lancashire right wing scored his sides only points just before the half time whistle. Ulster took the opportunity to use their subs bench and along with a lengthy stoppage for an injury to a Lancashire player, the game lost a little bit of impetus. The only score of the second half was a try by Campbell College full back, Jack Owens. Final score 35-5.
Ulster will expect a sterner test this Friday when they play a Languedoc Under 18 XV.

Any word on the Ulster schools team to play Leinster on Wednesday? I find it strange that it is being played at 2.30.

Anybody want to explain the difference between a captain and a leader?

A lot of work to be done, the legacy of a poor academy/schools structure coming home to roost ,

Report.
LEINSTER U-18 SCHOOLS 68 ULSTER U-18 SCHOOLS 5

This was nothing short of a mesmerising performance by the Leinster outfit, led by the dazzling feet of full-back Billy Dardis, as they swept to a 10-try victory over a decidedly poor Ulster in Donnybrook yesterday.

Centre Fergal Cleary, No 8 Nick Timoney and Dardis shared the spoils with two tries each in what was a supreme collective effort, highlighted by a Leinster-like style of play based on quick transfer of the ball and the exploitation of space.

Ulster looked like making a game of it when left-wing Rory Campbell went over in the left corner in the ninth minute to cancel out Cleary's opener.

But they were soon made to pay when Cleary completed his double, which was quickly followed by a pair from the lightning quick Dardis.

The Leinster tries flowed for Timoney (two), flanker Josh Murphy, lock Rory Moloney, wing James McCormack and replacement scrum-half Tim Schmidt, son of Leinster senior coach Joe.

Leinster -- B Dardis (Terenure); C Brennan (Cistercian Roscrea), F Cleary (Clongowes Wood), H Brewer (Terenure), J McCormack (Castleknock); R Byrne (St Michael's), N McCarthy (St Michael's, Capt); O Heffernan (Cistercian Roscrea), G Reynolds (Kings Hospital), O Jager (Blackrock), D O'Connor (Blackrock), R Moloney (Cistercian Roscrea), J Murphy (St Michael's), P Thornton (Terenure), N Timoney (Blackrock). Reps: M Courtney (CBC Monkstown) for Cleary (33), A Roche (Terenure) for Reynolds (h-t), J Ryan (St Michael's) for O'Connor (42), T Schmidt (Terenure) for McCarthy (46), A Penney (St Michael's) for Moloney (55), A Marks (Gonzaga) for McCormack (61), H O'Donnell (Newbridge) for Jager (62), E O'Sullivan (Templeogue) for Heffernan (62).

Ulster -- J Owens (Campbell); R Benade (Methodist), J McClure, R Bell; R Campbell (all RBAI); C Shiels (Coleraine AI), J Fullerton (Campbell); M Lagan (Methodist), M Montgomery (Bangor), A Gilkinson (Wallace), L Benson (Belfast HS), T Donnan (Down HS), D Dass (BRA), A McGrath (RBAI), D Morton (Royal Armagh, Capt). How come Leinster select their team from the top 4 teams on form yet we seem to select geographically....lot of boys from schools not exposed to high level rugby ......and a lot from teams that havent done much.....whilst there will always be good players at lesser rugby schools we seem to have over compensated
ONLY 5/6 FROM LAST YEARS SCHOOLS CUP SEMI FINALISTS
4/5 FROM INST WHO HAVENT REALLY BROKEN ANY DELF IN THE LAST FEW YEARS AT MEDALLION OR SENIOR SCHOOLS
