Mark Anscombe?

Not in the habit of starting new threads but I am desperate to find out more about Mark Anscombe.
Since he was appointed Ulster has been transformed into one of the most sought after coaching roles in European rugby.
With some of the best players in europe, an exciting batch of youngsters combined with a great HEC run puts us up with the european elite, it is a position any coach would covet.
We could probably have had our pick of them now.

What I know about Mark Anscombe is limited.
He has coached Wesley, Mosley, Coventry,North Harbour and the NZ u20s amongst others.
He also coached Auckland when I initally assumed it was the Blues and thought that was all the endorsement required.
Unfortunately it wasnt and I felt a bit deflated if I am honest.

The positives seem to be that he is a vastly experienced coach with a repututation of being an hard edged flanker as a player.
He has had success with the baby blacks, coaching them to the last world cup and specialises in youth development.

Negatives seem to be that he has not been successful from what I see at senior level and coaching the baby blacks to a world cup win is not exactly a great achievement considering its their 4th in a row.
Most worryingly is that I have heard from former players coached by him who werent exactly glowing in their praise of him.

This is where I am but I just want to know if anyone else knows anything different.
Please can we not have any got to keep positive or in humph we trust rhetoric which is all I have really heard to date.

Well analysed Bazzaj - with what you have here we can now use this as the
official site reference section on Mark as in fairness I don't think anyone
here really knows any more.

Also, in terms of "anything of substance" - the only things of substance for me is what he's going to do when he joins Ulster, not his past glories (or sackings).

Since his appointment that's about all anyone has managed to get ... and with the new super tight lock down no leaks UR firewall, I'd be slightly surprised if that wasn't at the high end of even Mark Anscombe contribution to his own CV.

One thing alone to set your mind at rest, I know a coach with no senior track record before being appointed. Indeed it has to be true that every head coach starts out that way. You get a blank sheet of paper and write your own CV as you go. This is his 1st gig as head coach at a serious rugby power & I feel quite happy that we can now justifiably say that about Ulster.

Now can we concentrate on "that guy's" finest hour, this weekend & in May?

I don't think people should underestimate the level at which Aukland play. ITM cup is serious rugby - it's not S15, but then neither is Currie Cup and look what the Blue Bulls did to us a couple of years ago.

If my daughter was being courted by a bloke I knew little about I would like to find out more.

Its only down the road and there must be people who can remember how he got on with our combined resources on this site?
