You said it Russ, 2 academy 10's have been outplayed by all accounts by a lad who didn't even make the select club side in the past few weeks.

Work it out there is only one combination of matches played in Ulster that fits the description, if you haven't worked out by Saturday I will tell you

Munster have form in this regard and are to be commended. I don't know the details of any ''package'', or indeed if there was one, but Alex Wooten, who scored 4 tries for Munster against the Southern Kings last weekend, was lured to the salubrious steeples of Limerick from the Northampton Academy. He has played for Ireland Senior sevens for a couple of seasons but is now concentrating on 15s.

I'm happy to be corrected but , apart from Sam Arnold, I cant think of any exile who joined the Ulster Academy and come through as a senior player.
I would think that the free education would be a big draw after seeing kids talking about debt of £60-£80K on the news last night, even if he doesn't make it in rugby, that is a hell of a start in life compared to kids who don't have parents to pay for their education.

The more obvious point though is that the Munster name still means a lot even if they have won feck all for a good while now & like ourselves, building on their collection of Final losers medals.

You could still see a few biys with fat wallets around Cork & Limerick, the likes of Shan, dipping into the reserves for help out the province. If only Ulster had some well-healed fans with deep pockets.

Still, I suppose at the end of the day & the going down of the sun, you can recruit who you like but if your coaches are shyte, it makes little difference whether the guy filling the shirt is OK or a bit better, you'll still get dross.

ESPECIALLY IF EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN YOUR STRUCTURES TELL THE OPPOSITION THEY ARE FAVOURITES. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

DID THESE CLAMPITS EVER HEAR THE WORDS: SELF-FULFILLING PROPHESY.
Support the team and coaching staff. Forget the rest,BUT NEVER MOVE ON.

FIRFU - FU'CK YOU ONE AND ALL, CAVING IN TO SPONSORS, SACKING THE INNOCENT FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE, SHAMEFUL BASTA'RDS. YOU'VE LOST MY SUPPORT & I HOPE MORE ULSTERMEN & WOMEN

Lowry hasn't played for Banbridge yet to my knowledge, he and Angus Curtis are the only two academy outhalves we have.

What is McPhillips then ?
My mistake actually as the other was Herron who is full contract
Young Cormac Fox from Armagh was the player I was referring to

I did find it odd that Fox missed out on an academy place given his involvement with the underage teams and even being preferred to Lowry at certain points, not surprised to hear he outplayed McPhillips though.

Couldn't possibly have a club player better than a schools player !

Joe Dunleavy, Aaron Hall, John McCusker, Adam McBurney are 4 recent club players who were deemed better than their schools counterparts and given an academy place ahead of them.

Given Lowry's excellent season last year, it's hardly surprising he was given an academy place.

Fox is still U20 and could make the academy.
