Our squad proved it is perfectly capable of playing great rugby in the first 26 minutes of yesterday's game. Our squad proved in the next 54 minutes that they are incapable of putting in an 80 minute performance and that our coach is clueless when it comes to tactics.Jackie Brown wrote:4 injuries, I think our squad is just shyteSnipe Watson wrote:Just because Doak is out of his depth and our squad is injury ravaged
We were more than capable of getting the fourth try if we hadn't started kicking at every available opportunity. It may not be Doak's fault, but it's rather suspicious that after 10 minutes in the company of our wonderful head coach we couldn't help but launch the pill into orbit. Our backs, some of the most lethal in the Pro12, are so badly misused I wouldn't blame them if they all left at the end of the season.
You haven't seen me at my best yet. Let's be honest, you probably never will.

Seems that whilst Mini and underage coaches are going up against the wall when the revolution comes ... it's the primary school teachers who totally ignored any desire to inculcate even a smidgen of grammar or coherent writing into their star pupils from yesteryear who will be first up!

No forgetting his foray into coaching open water swimming.Snipe Watson wrote:Just because Doak is out of his depth and our squad is injury ravaged doesn't mean that we should forget that Anscombe was a largely negative influence on the squad.
Remember we are talking about a man who didn't know the names of some junior squad members, liked to publicly humiliate players, Was regularly too hungover to be bothered and told James McKinney he would get plenty of game time next season after he had announced he was leaving.
As HWM would say, lest we forget.
For all his faults, Doak is at least giving it his best shot.

Snipe........Maybe he couldn't stomach Doaks half time team talk. In saying that he was sick much earlier than the match...Snipe Watson wrote:Did the clear coverage of Darren puking his ring up shortly before he came off pass everyone else by?lovesthehardground wrote:Great approach first half. Then we took Cave off for Payne and they scored after a break through the midfield. Our attacking play also stopped and we started to kick ball again. Go figure?!
Now I'm not saying that taking off Cave resulted in nearly losing the game but rather that substitution is a great example of poor coaching decisions. Other examples are turning down 2 kickable penalties at the start of the second half, resorting to a poor kicking game with no chasers, a no-pressure defence etc etc.
The coaches are to blame, yes. But what happened to Pienaar in the second half? Surely a world class scrum half should be expected to see what was going wrong and change it. I think Ruan gets off lightly on this forum when we all start criticising Rory, Paddy, Cave, Payne and Tommy. I think we should expect Ruan to stand up and challenge this useless kicking game we employ.

Never wrestle with a pig. You end up covered in muck and the pig loves it.
Re: Benetton Treviso v Ulster Sun 2pm UK Time BBCNI
Can I just get this straight - Doak is being slated as being a poor coach for subbing Cave for Payne, in comparison to Anscombe who instilled Payed as his first choice 13 in preference to Cave?
Anscombe (the backrow specialist) promoted McComish into his number one bench cover, and Mark should still be in place because Doak doesn't know what he is doing?
What is increasingly obvious is that the experienced heads who were around last season probably had far more influence on the pitch than either the departed or the current coaches, and that is probably the essence of successful teams rather than some magic rugby by numbers playbook.

Perhaps I'm wrong here, but Pienaar just does not look fit, and may have been rushed back after injury. He is certainly not playing like his old self. In the past few seasons he has nursed this team along like a one man band, and we are total shat when he's not on form.lovesthehardground wrote:Great approach first half. Pienaar can not be to blame when his pack are getting from pillar to post. Diack got manhandled all game FFS. Zanni was a machine in comparison.
Re: Benetton Treviso v Ulster Sun 2pm UK Time BBCNI
Pienaar is not operating at 100%. He was rushed back for the Scarlets in the hope that we might still stand a chance in the Champions' Cup but now we're paying the price and he's only at about 70%. I was extremely worried when he was being looked at on Sunday - I don't think he's far away from another serious injury unless he gets a rest soon.
Unfortunately that speaks volumes about our scrum-half situation that our best scrum-half at 70% is better than our back up at 100%.
