2015-16 Season

Post by EastTerraceUR »

The WORST CASE senario for Ulster during the WC would be to lose,

Pienaar
Rory
Henderson
Tuohy
Payne
Bowe
Trimble
Henry
Jackson?
Diack?
Gilroy?

Gilroy and Diack wont be in the Ireland squad but im talking worst case senario (maybe injuries to others)

What will Ulsters Squad look like?

LH - Black, Warick, Murphy
HK- Herring, Andrew
TH- Herbst, Declan, Ross, Ryan
SR - FDM, Stevenson, O'Connor, Peter Browne
BR - Wilson, Williams, Ross, Reidy, McComash, Falloon
SH - Marshall, Paul Rowley, Heaney
OH - Humphreys, Sam Windsor
W - Allen, Scholes, Nelson
C - MArshall, Cave, McCloskey
FB - Ludik, Andrew

Who am i missing, backs seems too low on numbers?

If we're talking about players who might get called up if there's injuries to frontline players, then we're possibly one injury away from losing both Best and Herring to the World Cup, which leave us in a real pickle.

Wouldn't be overly surprised to lose a centre as well should we finish the season well/injuries occur.

+1
And we would also be missing Henderson, possibly (probably?) Tuohy and maybe even Diack (unlikely). Which leaves you with no established hooker and only one established receiver (vanDaMan). Not a good combination.

Nor would our backrow be great. Faloon (OK), Wilson (slowing seemingly by the week - summer 2017 looks an awful long way away right now Roger) and .... ex-campbell 10 McComish? No disrespect Clive? He's a kiwi he might be good Reidy?

Not too worried about our wingers, even if we lose Trimble, Bowe and Gilroy, we'll still have Scholes and Nelson - who, given the rest of the league will be stripped bare of players too, are more than comparable.

In the centre, we'll have Olding (maybe, dep. on injury recovery), McCloskey (v. unlikely to travel), Marshall (v. unlikely to travel), Cave (maybe).... again, relative to the rest of the league - thats more than good enough.

Jacko at 10 will be a loss, with the tackle machine a disaster waiting to happen. Stanley is a short term only?

Ruan we don't need to talk about. Beagle couldn't pass 5 years ago... he hasn't learned how to since, I don't hold out much hope for a change inside a few months - we'll not go near his game management. Hopefully Heaney (or ANOther) steps up into that role.

So.... in summary we'd have no lineout attacking or defensive, no-one able run a backline from 9 or 10 and a backrow that will struggle to carry the ball. Great mix.

Olding will not be playing before next January at the earliest and probably not to near end of next season, Heaney is offski at the end of this season. We have a backup 10 signed so not just ihumph.

Anyone not in the squad across in Engerland will be playing to keep them match fit if they are called up as injury cover, Joe likes players playing and not sitting on their arses getting musclebound in the gym.

Can't see Jackson being included in the 31 man squad, but he will be involved in the warm-ups and be on standby as injury cover. That might mean his Ulster time will be managed to ensure he is both fit and fresh, but he should be available.

Paradoxically I can see Diack being in the RWC squad. He is the only utility who can cover every backrow position and lock. An ideal guy to fill in for the 'lesser' games to rest starters. If he's not in the main squad then it's unlikely he would be on standby because if one of the starters have to go home there are better specialist replacements.

Henry seems to be a Joe favourite so will probably go but that leaves Ulster yet again very exposed in the backrow. Ulster needed a quality 8 this season never mind next, has Bryn got his eye on that ball?
