Re: Pre Season Fixtures
ha ha, bit of sass on not being invited to the Payne - Anscombe barbie.
Re: Pre Season Fixtures
Jared Payne had Mark Anscombe over for BBQ last night!!
I have my own tv channel, what have you got?

So far so good. Lets wait a wee bit longer.BaggyTrousers wrote:Sitting over dinner in Spain. Can I assume Rodney is no longer considered a chube?
Re: Pre Season Fixtures
Very encouraging display albeit for a pre-season friendly. Based on this display:
Rodney looks the business on this display. Great carrying and scrummaging. I'd have him over Herbst right now.
Brett Heron looks very accomplished and is technically gifted. Great hands and he can tackle too.
Puitau is unreal. Amazing set of skills and real gas. This will be an exciting year with him. He seems to encourage others to offload and his offload to setup Stockdale was ridiculous.
Rob Lyttle, what a prospect. The best goal kicking debut from an academy player I've ever seen. Great step and gas to burn.

Re: Pre Season Fixtures
Yep- agree with all that- Puitau was just unreal and fair play to Stockdale running that line to get on the end of the offload!
Lyttle was excellent as well- serious backline talent this season.
Rea and Treadwell look to be big units and both seemed to have a decent hit out in the second half but Roger showed there is life in the old dog yet!
Very happy with that and Tommy and Dan's commentary was the icing on the cake- entertaining with some nice incites.
I did think the yellow against Busby was a bit OTT though.

Re: Pre Season Fixtures
Sounds impressive given relative strengths of squad. We knew Charless is class but if Herron is a decent pick behind Paddy and Rodders isn't a chube there is hope for us yet.
One question, when "Saints scrum was destroyed" who was the Ulster front five?

Re: Pre Season Fixtures
Not sure of the complete front five as there were a lot of changes but Rodney and Black were propping. Also Ross Kane looked very solid too.BaggyTrousers wrote:Sounds impressive given relative strengths of squad. Dan says Charlie could sidestep a defender in a phone booth
“That made me feel very special and underlined to me that Ulster is more than a team, it is a community and a rugby family"

Just everyone spare a thought for crackers mates having to pay money to witness that debacle.

I think Charlie can do a job
Been going to these things for years but never seen a slicker preseason Ulster team. The first half was a joy. Felt a bit like an ERC game at HT.
Nice symmetry to the evening. Spanners won by 10 after leading by 24 at HT (when's the last time a team scored 38 at Ravers and lost?) and so did Ulster A v Saints 1st XV.

that's really funny. Realty surprised by Ulsters performance tonight. £15 to see Charles smack their 12 on his hoop, money well spent!bazzaj wrote:Just everyone spare a thought for crackers mates having to pay money to witness that debacle.

Warwick had the measure of Brookes before Black came on, and Browne looked better than VDM both in the tight and the loose.
