A special mention to Coetzee and Murphy. But Cooney was on another level.

Our back row were excellent but for me the wedge at tight head was excellent throughout, even got himself over the ball for a penalty just after half time. His performance at scrum time even more obvious when we were hammered when he departed.

Marty Moore you are my man of the match.

Could have gone for Marcel or Marty but Cooney won it for us. He controlled everything.

Marcell was fantastic and as usual would be up there for MOTM but this week I'd go for Jordi Murphy. Though it was an all action performance from him, with impact in the loose, breakdown and lineout.

One of the best I have seen from him.

I name all starting 15 as the men of the match with a wonderful performance. I don't want to pick out individuals in what was a great team performance.
I must mention the ex Leinster men on the team who gave their all for Ulster tonight and I hope they will all sign extensions to their contracts very soon.

At least ten individuals had bloody good games tonight without the team gelling as a whole.

Jordi was exceptional. He added the seen stuff to the unseen stuff he normally does.

If John Cooney isnt Irelands starting 9 for the 6 nations Farrell should be shot.
Think in Coetzee SA have their next Vermeulen.
Likewise Jordi Murphy could be the next Irish Jordi Murphy.
Toss up between the 3 of them for mom though want to give a special mention to Herrings darts and the most passive French defending from any of their sides ever witnessed.
That helped.

John Cooney is a good player but blows a bit hot and cold. It would be good to see him become more consistent. On the plus side his tries against Bath and last night were excellent pieces of opportunism and (in the case of last night) vision. Also his quickly taken penalty kick from hand gave us the lineout which led to the first try last night. On the debit side he blew a great try opportunity when he went right instead of left where Jordi Murphy and Jacob Stockdale were nailed-on scorers. Also in the second half he missed 2 penalty kicks to touch (a basic error) which wasted good field position and attacking opportunities. So, a mixed bag. Though good he’s no Ruan.

Marcell was the best player on the pitch.

Cooney was second. The only issue is the two missed kicks to touch. One can happen but two is not acceptable for a professional. His try was exceptional though.

The problem with Cooney is that the better he gets the closer he gets to starting for the FIRFU and that’ll mean half the season won’t be playing for Ulster - which means we’ll win nothing as there just simply is nothing at 9 behind him resembling a pro14 standard scrum half at the very least.

Wouldn’t have been a problem if the FIRFU had seen there was room for Cooney and Ruan.

I’ll add that he deserves nothing less than the irish 9 jersey- best 9 in Ireland at present and probably last season too.
