So Rounds 3 and 4 won’t be played.

It will be (mildly) interesting to see what they’ll do. Presumably put the top 8 from each pool in the knockouts.

That could mean that the 9th placed teams (yes, I’m afraid so.....) join the Parker Pen to make up a 16.

Yup Ulster and Connacht in Parker Pen. In Heiny, they will have to decide re Round 16 whether Team 1 in Pool A plays Team 8 in same Pool or they go cross conference. Based on my very unofficial spreadsheet, I have the Parker Pen looking like:

Challenge Cup

Round of 16 (1st weekend of April)
C1 H24 London Irish v Glasgow
H20 C5 Bath v Zebre
C2 H23 Ospreys v Harlequins
H19 C6 Saints v Agen
C3 H22 Cardiff Blues v Dragons
H18 C7 Connacht v Benetton
C4 H21 Leicester v Montpellier
H17 C8 Ulster v Newcastle

Quarter Finals (2nd weekend of April)
C1/H24 H20/C5
C3/H22 H18/C7
C2/H23 H19/C6
C4/H21 H17/C8

Semi Finals (Last weekend of April, Final on May 21st)
QF1 QF2
QF3 QF4

That 79th minute lack of game management at Gloucester has cost Ulster another seat with the big boys

Or it puts Ulster into a competition which they could win. Currently Ulster not good enough to get to the pointy end of the Heineken Cup with the likes of Leinster, Exeter etc.

Agreed Neill. There's no team there that we need to be afraid of. We can take any of them, home or away.

There’s a potential double on now this season so will be a test of how far the team has come in the last few years under Dan McF.

Ulster and Newcastle are probably the best two teams in it.

They're certainly no worse than Gloucester and will be tough challenge away from home.

First competitive game v Newcastle although Ulster did beat them in a preseason game a few years ago,

Zach Kerr from Bangor may feature. Seems to have impressed this season.

Hmnn some potential crackers for Ulster to go to the final via Leicester, Saints or Quins, but most importantly your spreadsheet suggests it would be possible to have an Ulster v London Irish final...!!!!!
