Edinburgh vs ULSTER MOTM

Post by fermain »

Slow (and poor) first half, but we increased the intensity & dominated the 2nd and Mads proved his worth :red:

With Rob Lyttle as the offical Man of the Match who would you choose as yours?

With all his carries, tackles and some big turnovers, MC gets my nod.

Can a guy who only comes on for the last ten minutes get MotM? Why not?

Pleased that Lyttle has got some credit though. Hopefully he can steer clear of injuries now cos he’s a dynamic and clever rugby player.

Marcell for me. Honorable mention for the 2 starting props who did well and plugged away tirelessly to allow moore and mcgrath to gain metres in the second half. Carter was good and will get better with hendo alongside him. Reidy needs to start next week and I'd consider timoney over rea on the bench.

Reidy was superb off the bench, just as he was at Bath, but he’s in our best three back rows for sure.

Treadwell is probably better as a replacement but he seemed to offer more than Carter.

MC man of the match for me but thought Rea was throwing himself about a bit more and excelled in the lineouts.

I still think Matthewson completely changed the game. His passing allowed Ulster men to run on to the ball whereas Cooney was a yard off every time. Marcel as usual was phenomenal though.

There seemed to be a collective upping of the pace in the second half, albeit that really needs to start from 9 and Alby barely put a foot or paw wrong.

Too often, we’re left wondering why no sense of urgency was displayed until it was too late. The players can take this confidence in their fitness levels forward, allied with clever use of the bench.

Some great performances - but for me, MC. He may not have won the game for UR, but made sure Edinburgh didn’t. His turnovers and general abrasiveness made sure Edinburgh didn’t get dominance upfront.....had they, we’d have been sunk (esp with IH missing).
Delighted that so many fellas put their hands up with big contributions whether starting or subs - a real developmental box ticked for this squad of players.
Delighted for Lyttle super performance, also as an observation S McCl & Hume, look a very decent pairing in the centre, & Stockdale looks confident and more physical 👍

Fantastic team selection by our coach. He judged the game perfectly with his starting team and when to use the bench was superb.
Congrats to Madigan who at the end was the reason why are are in the final.
I hope those that doubted his signing will now appreciate how useful a signing for Ulster he will prove to be and good luck to him.
Signing him and Matthewson was a very cleaver piece of work by Ulster.

If you picked Marcell at the start of every game you'd be correct more often than not. To borrow from TMS, a lovely champagne moment from Lyttle. Intelligent boot on him too.

I'm away to get a pair of Shinner boots on Monday. They're on special. - only £19.16 in the Kukri shap ;)

Haven’t seen the game as travelling but there is no better feeling than receiving the SUFTUM WhatsApp from my mate, nailed on win when he sends that. Can’t wait to watch Tuesday night, including wanting to know if we have held on to the best boots award of course. The logic as to why a couple of thousand (a la Quins) could not go down and gulder is a bit lost on me but what do I know. Well done lads....
