Zebre v ULSTER MoTM

Well, by all accounts (I haven't seen it yet) it was Men vs Boys with Zebre down by a large contingency in the Italian squad, and Ulster blooding a few youngsters resulting in a big score. :red: :fleg:

But!... who was yer Man of the match?

It was Marcel against mere mortals...

Just delighted we kept the pressure and tempo up. Get the TBP in the first half and then copy Leinster...

But Coetzee was a different gravy ... Amidst our offerings of mediocrity, weve had the privilege of watching Ruan and Marcel live in an Ulster Shirt in a lifetime.

Yes, yes and yes.

The verdict's probably close to unanimous, but in the 'anyone but Coetzee' count I'll plump for McIlroy; from the radio it didn't sound like he did much wrong and kept looking for work/a score until the end.

Only watched the highlights, but he did seem to miss a reasonable chance before he scored.

Marcel of course. However I thought Bill Johnston and as usual Marty Moore showed up well. I think with match practice and experience Bill will become an excellent out half, Look out for Munster wanting him back.

all the more reason to give him an award for perseverance! Caught the 3min highlights myself - an entirely useless way to get a sense of anything other than the seconds when someone gets over the line.

@Cracker MM is having an excellent season. Johnston got a lot of praise from Gusher and McWhirter (?) for his game management; I feel he needs a good few stellar performances to convince, as Burns and Madigan have both gone well in different ways over the past while.

Not disagreeing. Looked keen from what I saw.

(I was watching the 30 min highlights - even then it was really just the scores)

Even then it was a tight squeeze. Enjoyed the Zebo style "deliberate" ball juggling for their first try.

replace "reasonable" with "difficult" and you've got it. A better more experienced winger would probably/possibly have scored, if that's your definition of "reasonable", but I would give him a bye-ball on this one.

Luke, for example, took his chance well, knowing what to do almost by instinct when a less experienced player might have gone for the corner and probably have been bundled into touch.

Clearly it’s Marcel - but wee Mikey just seems to get better and better - a real hunger for the game and a good rugby brain to go with it - a real asset! Marty is a genuine stalwart doing an enormous amount of solid work each game - hope he remains fully fit! Good to see youngsters such as Moore and McIlroy get game time and really prove themselves!

Giving it to Dan McF for things like giving McIlroy the full 80 minutes (confidence booster), to Madigan for things like throwing the long pass to McIlroy for his try (definitely the act of an experienced player wanting to bring on youngsters) and to Roddy Grant for coaching the breakdown and lineouts, I can't recall a single penalty given away by an isolated player during the game (a first surely?), always someone clearing out...

Marcel must have found out that he didn't win last week. What is bloody good is how many players other than Marcel are finding consistent form.
