Connacht v Ulster Sun Dec 27th KO 7:35pm

Post by Neill_M »

Referee: Sean Gallagher (IRFU, 22nd Championship Appearance)
Assistant Referees: Chris Busby and Eoghan Cross (both IRFU)
TMO: Brian MacNeice (IRFU)

TV - Premier Sports 1, Eir Sport 1 and TG4. Team announced on Saturday.

Back row Sean Reidy has been added to Ulster's already lengthy injury list for Sunday's Pro14 contest against Connacht in Galway.
Reidy sustained a shoulder injury in Saturday's heartbreaking Heineken Champions Cup defeat by Gloucester.

Coach Dan McFarland said that Reidy's injury is "being looked at".

Marcell Coetzee and Sam Carter are continuing to follow return to play protocols so there remains a chance they could feature in Galway.
Influential back row Coetzee and Carter both missed the Gloucester defeat which almost certainly ended Ulster's European hopes after having sustained concussion in the opening Champions Cup home reverse against Toulouse.

Hooker Adam McBurney will also not be involved in The Sportsound contest as he has a hamstring injury though on the plus side, Kieran Treadwell should be in contention again after serving a three-week suspension.

If connacht go full bore I think we may struggle. Should be a good learning experience for the youngsters again no matter what. Hopefully we can test ourselves fully against munster and leinster in coming weeks.

Scrum penalties a worry for me. Hope I’m wrong but tight 5 advantage Connacht.
Let’s get at them early and I’m happy to have egg on my face.

Justin, I like the way you say “ fairly strong breeze” in Galway. The BBC forecast 65-75 mph winds! >EW

Aye, it’s the first game since March that I’m not too fussed about missing.

Although a couple of days in the Connacht Hotel would be very welcome!

That was my first impression. I also doubt that 16-19 will make that much of a difference, but I hope to be wrong.

However, even without Marcell et al, I think we edge the back row and as it is they who decide who wins*, I'm not in the least worried. :duck:

Usual interpro selection.Throw the away matches and concentrate on the home games. Poor selection up front, particularly at scrum time. Connacht by 10!
