Cooney rumours

Post by thecrouch »

On the interwebs today I read distressing rumours that Cooney is off to France next season.

Can any of you in-the-know folks dispel what must surely be a bad joke? I have been had, right?

I'm open to correction, but I believe he's under contract for another season after this.

Ulster wouldn't allow a player to leave when under contract, would they?

Shirley they wouldn't bow to pressure either from a team wishing to buy out an Ulster player's contract?

Would they?

Shirley nat!

Wouldn't be Cooney's agent saying unless he gets international recognition, he's off, would it?

Stranger things have happened.

But not as strange as a player being released from contract.

That would never happen at Ulster ... would it?

Not sure what Ulster can do about him getting more Ireland recognition. They can only offer Ulster recognition which they have done so. I've recognised him plenty of times playing for Ulster.

Wasn't suggesting his agent was sending a message to Ulster.

Maybe looking for some reassurance from Farrell, and if not forthcoming, may as well make some decent dosh if it's on offer.

I should point out that I know nathin about this, and am simply typing for the sake of it.

How accurate has this source been in the past?

Don't know about UAB's source, I've heard it from a number of sources, Branch officials and one of Cooney's mates from Dublin who is now working here.

Remains to be seen , that's the first I've heard any rumour from them on anything. Source is a former player

Doesn’t make sense to me. If that was the case and deal has been squared off ages ago, why has he been around the Ireland squads for last 12mths?.....he’d have been binned off before now. Also does anyone trust a French club to keep their gob Shut?.....no me neither.....what’s the club?
Also they’d have been replacement rumours re inter province moves by now.
