ok gents, I don’t care at Rodney parade in the Pro14, I’m talking a Euro QF standard examination: we don’t have an adequate 8. Jordi / Reidy have done shifts however both are older now. We need a top 8, both are skilled flankers.

For me its more to do with role assignment than shirt number in the backrow as long as you have the skill sets within the trio. Martyn Williams was a small guy but great over the ball. Marcell is big for a breakdown specialist, but he's a physical freak.
I'm not concerned as long as we get a balanced backrow and then with Leone's ball carrying, that adds a great option.
I think we'll be ok next season.

Hope we are keeping Jones and Timoney as well all the same.
From the rolling glens of Antrim through the hills of Donegal we will stand and shout for Ulster as we win both scrum and maul from the lovely lakes of Fermanagh tae the shores of ould Lough Gall we will scream and shout for Ulster as we beat them one and all!

Timoney looked like he had bulked up a little and seemed to be paying dividends in last few matches. Now if only Jones could also. Defensively Jones has been superb.

I think we still need a big ball carrier for those one out carries. Leo is great in the wide margins where he can get his arms free for an offload. Having him crashing it up is not his style so where are we going to get it from?

Not sure he needs to crash it up constantly though, he scares defenders and makes space as multiple players try to stop him offload. Rea’s carrying has improved, though not so much from static.

Do agree though a proper ball carrying 8 combined with Nakarawa would cause carnage.

Timoney will still be a regular 23 match day player and Jones wider squad man.
Timoney is a better player than Matty Rea.

Leo played at 8 in the WC when Fiji’s 2nd XV managed to lose to Uruguay.

I see Glasgow have a game against Benetton the Saturday before they play us.

No.
Hendy is totally geared and trained towards second row.

Per a previous post that would leave Alby, Faddes and Louis Ludik as the definite 2021's still outstanding.
Wouldn't surprise me to see all 3 released as part of the cost control required.
