Was trying to think of decent 7’s ulster have produced :-

Chris Henry - although from memory he started out as a 6/8 and was converted by McGlock around 2011

Neil Best - more of a 6 really, but from memory played 7 at times?

David Pollock - U20 grand slam winner who got injured and retired early. Think he was a 7.

Neil McMillan - was a very good 7. Might have been a bit small for international rugby. Career ruined by bad injuries at ulster at a time when from memory he was about to break into the Ireland squad.

Seem to recall Ferris playing 7 early in his international career also.

When the Ulster backrow was Best, Wilson and Ferris, did Best or Ferris play 7?

I think Chris Henry was the last international level groundhog 7 that we produced- albeit, he was successfully converted from 6/8 to that position. I look forward to us having a similar player and although I think we have some very good backrowers (Murphy and Reidy for instance) I genuinely don’t know whether or not we have someone with that potential in our present squad.

Ferris had just broken into the Ulster team when Best was in his prime, and played at 7.

In the 2005/06 championship season, Best 6 and Ferris 7 started 10 games together. Wilson started at No8 in all of them.

Ulster 8 Biarritz 24 13/1/06
Treviso 26 Ulster 43 21/1/06
Edinburgh 23 Ulster 31 17/2/06
Ulster 27 Munster 3 3/3/06
Ulster 24 Dragons 17 25/3/06
Glasgow 18 Ulster 27 15/4/06
Ulster 26 Blues 17 5/5/06
Ulster 63 Reivers 17 12/5/06
Scarlets 12 Ulster 12 19/5/06
Ospreys 17 Ulster 19 26/5/06

Have I missed them, hard to keep up with all the contracts. Faddes and McBurney ?
From the rolling glens of Antrim through the hills of Donegal we will stand and shout for Ulster as we win both scrum and maul from the lovely lakes of Fermanagh tae the shores of ould Lough Gall we will scream and shout for Ulster as we beat them one and all!

Neil McMillan was a cracker 7, sadly his knees were held together by poppadums, David Pollock had the potential to be a world beater, and Willie Falloon was underrated imo

Bryn has confirmed that he’s been signed as an eight who can play six and turn out at a lot at lock as well.

He was a very good 15 in his day, but to play backrow and/or 2nd row, especially after he's been retired so long is asking a lot.

Wonder who's gonna be doing his management job while he's back playing?
