Decidedly underwhelming options.
Agree Snipe. Every time I have seen Rea jnr play for Ulster he has been pretty decent but it seems like he is not rated that highly by the coaches.

Rea snr and Jones are fine for home games against the likes of Dragons and Zebre but not beyond that.

May have changed in regards Rea Jr -he got a lot of gametime in both preseason matches and did pretty well. Hopefully he'll keep kicking on, I think he's a potentially a real gem at 7- smart, fast and pretty tough.

Agreed. I'd like to see him given some continuity in that position rather than bounced across the back row.

Timoney on paper is bigger than Sam simmonds at Exeter. If he can do the same role for us then he should get a decent run at it.

Any season ticket holders not going and fancy selling their ticket before I buy from Ticketmaster?

Expect to see a good mix of youth and experience, would go for a team like this: Reid, Herring, Moore, AOC (c), Carter, Reidy, Murphy (if not Rea Jr) Timoney, Cooney, Burns, Stockdale, McCloskey, Hume, Baloucoune, Lowry
Subs - Roberts, O’Sullivan, O’Toole, Kearney, McCann, Doak, Madigan, Addison

Looks like Glasgow have been fairly busy in the off season on the transfer front. Notables out include Adam Hastings, Darcy Rae, Leone Nakawara, Huw Jones, and Niko "The Cheat" Matawalu. You add the likes of Hogg and Russell who left previously and it's not great for the league. Notable incoming include Duncan Weir, Jamie Bhatti, Jack Dempsey (Oz, 14 caps) and Sebastián Cancelliere. Not a great return against players leaving.

Glasgow beat Worcester away 22- 27 and lost to Newcastle at home 7 - 12. Not that there is much to read into these.

You would like to hope with home advantage we should win this and comfortably.

I hope we start with young McCann in the back row and persist with him.
Jack Dempsey packs quite a punch from what I've seen of him.

Timony and Simmons are different types of player ,playing the same position -- Timony likes to run in open space - whereas Simmons seems to prefer to play the game in your face.

Both approaches have merit and the success of either depends on the blend of the other players in the back row .

The back row of a scrum was once a place for individuals with individual roles --open or blind side and the number 8 as a deep cover either side when defending. and as attackers the back row were considered ball winning support for the backline . The modern game is somewhat different, roles are allotted to players within the frame work of a cross field defence and a frequently flat line attack .

Some forwards being seen as carriers and channel blockers and others as ball winners but each has role allotted and a predetermined place per phase -- the problems arise when the players cannot fill their predetermined place and role. which is not that often --which is why the game goes into "Doak ball" mode -- a sort of stale mate-- waiting for the referees whistle to provide the corner kick or relief .

Making the game frequently predictable and often uninteresting .
Within this carapace of skepticism there lives an optimist

He will be "rested" no doubt after all the games he played in South Africa.

We may get Hendo by week 3/4 mid October, we play Connacht in Week 5 (Oct 23) with both unlikely to have Irish internationals as Ireland going to Vegas for a game v USA to fill the bank the week after
