He somehow got wrapped around the bloke who had McCann by the ankle.

I would say the odds are that he’s done his knee, unfortunately.

Unfortunately that's the one thing he may well have caught. :(

Unfortunately it looked like a bad injury.
As for the game itself 5 points well deserved on the night in a game that was NOT spoilt by a succession of scrum resets and endless TMO referrals

Coming in to say exactly the same.

Timoney was the best player on the pitch, but man of the match was Mike Adamson. Hats off sir, well refereed.

Have to agree he was super, the style of rugby we now want to play requires a ref who wants the game to flow.

If Adamson consitently referees like that I'd have him every week. My thoughts have been indifferent about his reffing previously.

Rumour has it that he was part of the Vermeulen deal - straight swap. They didn’t want the band though.

He was there on Friday night but shamefully not wearing a face covering as required by Ulster Rugby
Hope is not a strategy.

I take it he's not allowed pitch side due to some Covid ruling, he's always good to get the crowd going a couple of times during the game.

I've never been a fan of Adamson, but I'll go so far as to say that it was his best match with Ulster by some way, and my worst fears weren't realised.

It's not just an "Ulster thing" I have with him, I have been underwhelmed on numerous occasions when seeing him referee other teams too. I think part of the problem is that the players don't have confidence in him and he can be quite inconsistent which makes it harder for them to know how he will react, and that translates into their play.

The Grumpy jury is still out on whether he can develop the consistency required, or whether that was as good as it gets, but it would be churlish of me not to say congrats on his performance on Friday night.

You reflect my thoughts exactly Cap’n. I was apprehensive when I saw his name on Friday night but ended up pleasantly surprised with a well executed performance of reffing and keeping the game flowing. He didn’t require the normal level of advice that I give freely at Ravenhill!!

I had to encourage him to award Rea’s try after some initial hesitation.

Far fewer stoppages than last week though.

Play thankfully didn't descend into that predictable whistle every two minutes as field position was enhanced by another 50/50 decision being given as a penalty -- and some of that is down to the attitude and willingness of the the players on both sides to allow the game to be played without looking for or playing to obtain penalties.

I think the players made it easy for him.

The most annoying referee is the one who signals a penalty somewhere between the two 10 metre lines and allows play to proceed for about 3 phases and then goes back to the Penalty

I have yet to see an side have a positive outcome by allowing play to continue in that part of the field -- ie to score a try in less then 4 phases of play .

I think most refs would rightly decree advantage over before a try for a penalty between the 10m lines.
