Matt Williams

Post by Gerrymc »

I don't know if there's a ban on talking about it, but I can't understand why you aren't shouting from the rooftops against the proposed signing of Matt Williams as Head Coach. As a Scot who enjoyed playing in my day, which was a while ago, against the likes of Mike Gibson, Jimmy McCoy, Bill McBride, Trevor Ringland, Keith Crossan, Dessie McCann, etc I know how proud you Ulstermen are, and Williams will drive you to distraction, with his rugby by numbers. If anybody here has any influence with the Board, have a word. If there is any doubt, maybe someone will send them the dvd's of his time in charge of Scotland, and they might want to ask if he was so good a coach as he thinks he is, who exactly has he been coaching since then?

Exactly the opposite of the views of 2 former Leinster players that he coached

Welcome aboard Gerry, Dessie McCann

For sure Williams record with Scotland was very, very poor but by the same token his record at Leinster was the reason Scotland headhunted him.
Also look at Andy Robinsons record with England who now has Edinburgh turned round.

It's not a done deal yet................but whoever gets the Ulster job will have his work cut out and will need our support.

Have a look at some Ulster dvds...............you'll see what i mean.

Dessie played prop for Dungannon and was an Ireland B cap. I'm sure he played in the same team as Stu McKinney and Willie Anderson.

one question that hasnt been asked on the coaching matter: Who Else Is There? the only other name that has been thrown in the ring was Gareth Jenkins, but we havent heard a thing about him for a while. it seems other candidates, Willie Anderson, Andre Bester have been dismissed completely!

ive also heard that one main reason for William's possible appointment is due to his relationship with EOS and thus would keep the 4 provinces in steady eddie's back pocket

PS: does anyone else have problems with slow loading and typing because of these damn snowflakes!!!!

no loading is fine despite snowflakes

I suppose a lot is down to availability. If UR want to appoint a coach now rather than wait til the end of the season, then Williams and Jenkins are the only 2 available. Otherwise they'll have to pay compensation to get someone else out of thir contract.

The bit that worries me is the fact that mulligan wrote as part of his insight with Mike that one of the prospective coached was looking for £80k more than IRFU allowed, I hope it was Jenkins or another unamed as if it is Williams perhaps that is the reason for no answer yet on the job.

Snowflakes are very small file so should not cause a problem UH :?

I have thought that since something I heard after the Ospreys game, is there any serious interest in the job at all ?
