Long before 1110 Shirley?
Plenty of knights slaughtered too, and ultimately the Saracens won and held Jerusalem for centuries (but then it was moor ..... sorry, MORE of a a home fixture for them).
Are you suggesting we move the match to Palestine?

Cap'n I believe the first Crusade started in 1110 with the capture of Sidon, so I was using that as a reference.Cap'n Grumpy wrote:Long before 1110 Shirley?

No worries, but Sidon came after the first crusade (called for in 1095 by Pope Urban II) was completed.TheSnapper wrote:Cap'n I believe the first Crusade started in 1110 with the capture of Sidon, so I was using that as a reference.

That is a matter of conjecture - some say he was martyred, others that he died of natural causes. The fact that we do know is that he shuffled off this mortal coil in the 3rd century AD and had no part in any of the crusades.big mervyn wrote:What happened to Urban I?Cap'n Grumpy wrote:1095 Urban II
