Good Wins for all the Irish Provinces.
Good results for Irish Rugby, hopefully Munster or Leinster can go all the way and get us all in next year. Munster/Leinster final in Paris anyone.

don't let modesty get in the way cf - great win for you Westies and well deserved I thought.
Can't see both Leinster and Munster winning in France in the SFs - although I seem to remember a Lansdowne final that was 'destined' to be an all-Irelnad affair before Perpignan and Stade Toulousain put a spanner in the works. Payback time??

Re: Good Wins for all the Irish Provinces.
Great results across the board for all three provinces, Munster did what they do best and out played, out fought and out scored 1 of the best teams in the GP, they played with pride, played for each other and played for their supporters.
Leinster playing 1 of the aristocrats of French rugby made a remarkable recovery from going down 10 points to nil, they didn't let their heads drop but rallied and went in at half time 20-10 up. When Clermont hit back going into a 5 point lead Leinster players didn't give up and eventually won 29-28 they showed belief in themselves, they showed passion and a desire to win. Even though Brock James could have won it he didn't because Leinster applied pressure throughout the game and it showed in missed penalties and drop goal. Leinster deserved their victory.
Connacht the underfunded, poorly supported, supposedly weakest Province produced a fantastic performance to put out Bourgoin, despite trailing 20-14 with 20 minutes to go their heads didn't drop and they went on to win 23-20. They showed passion, commitment and self belief to win through in the end.
Congratulations to all three teams you have done yourselves, clubs, supporters, provinces and country proud.....
Then there's Ulster.... no pride, no commitment, no passion no self belief, it's painful watching the 3 other provinces having success while we stumble from 1 crisis to another showing greater incompetence each time, It's time for the Ulstermen to Stand Up..... but unfortunately I have very little faith in the men with the

Re: Good Wins for all the Irish Provinces.
easy to criticise Ulster in light of the other 3 provinces going well.
don't forget however that we were so so close to getting to an amlin QF ourselves. easy to see where our deficiences are; but regardless of the key positions where we need better personnel, we are probably short of depth in the squad as well - take a botha or court or ferris or paddy out of the equation and we really struggle. hopefully ravens success can begin to address this.
McL made a comment last week along the lines of us being roughly 10 men short of the squads that the munsters/leinsters/ospreys/cardiffs/top GP sides have. wholly agree with this - while by and large we're not too hindered with injuries, a long season with its bumps and bruises and knocks takes its toll. being able to rest players, being able to keep big players fresh for big games is massive and the top sides have the strength in depth to do so.
connacht however are defying this logic - a small squad, with a handful of players who would break into our team and virtually none who would be lining up in blue or red in a heiny QF - showing how to do it.

Re: Good Wins for all the Irish Provinces.
Agreed that this situation needs to be addressed, but whither Humphs snr and Mr Logan do anything about it is a different story, time will tell.....with Rush and Muller replacing Matt and Horua, with Clint already gone and with Isaac, Ed and possibly Nagusa going we need 4 more players to break even before we go out and get another 10 players, it looks like we will be relying on the academy again. It just seems that we have developed a losing mentality and can't get rid of it, a win on Tuesday is a must.....McL made a comment last week along the lines of us being roughly 10 men short of the squads that the munsters/leinsters/ospreys/cardiffs/top GP sides have. wholly agree with this - while by and large we're not too hindered with injuries, a long season with its bumps and bruises and knocks takes its toll. being able to rest players, being able to keep big players fresh for big games is massive and the top sides have the strength in depth to do so.

I have some difficulty going along with any idea that this is 'just a numbers thing'.scrum5 wrote:Agreed that this situation needs to be addressed, but whither Humphs snr and Mr Logan do anything about it is a different story, time will tell.....with Rush and Muller replacing Matt and Horua, with Clint already gone and with Isaac, Ed and possibly Nagusa going we need 4 more players to break even before we go out and get another 10 players, it looks like we will be relying on the academy again. The diference in the number of players named on the ML site across Leinster, Munster and Ulster is actually minimal. The big difference is in the use that these players are put to. Both Leinster and Munster give starting or replacement opportunities to players such that they use more players than we do.
Perhaps our players are not good enough overall. Perhaps they do not yet have enough experience. Perhaps the coach is not prepared to trust them due to the pressure to win games and (more recently) stay above Connacht.
I think I know the answer but it is not just numbers.

It's the quality of those numbers that counts.........replacing an international with an international.

Personally I think the old saying sums it up, " It's not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog."Perhaps our players are not good enough overall. Perhaps they do not yet have enough experience. Perhaps the coach is not prepared to trust them due to the pressure to win games and (more recently) stay above Connacht.
