French Rugby Barrage 15/16

Post by Neill_M »

Jeremy Davidson's Aurillac are in the ProD2 playoffs this week and host Mont-de-Marsan.

The other semi final sees Bayonne play Colomiers. The final is next week in Toulouse and the winner will join Lyon in the Top 14 next year.

All 3 have been relegated from Pro D2 into the 3rd tier Federale 1 (pending an appeal). Pretty bad for Biarritz, considering their big rivals Bayonne have a chance of getting back into the Top 14.

Pro 12 finished so below is a closer look at the Top 14 with it entering its last round of games (Sun night - 7:45 pm KO) and who needs what etc:

1st Clermont 83 pts - Already guaranteed a bye week for the QFs of the playoffs, a win will see them finish top of the pile and play the winners of the 4th/5th placed sides. A top seeding would make them a Pot 2 side at worst in the Euro Draw

2nd Montpellier 81 pts – Need a draw to guarantee a Top 2 finish and get next weekend off. If they do this – will play the winners of the 3rd/6th placed sides. Otherwise, could slip as low as 4th if things go south on Sun.

3rd Racing 92 77 pts – Need 1 pt to secure home advantage in the QFs. Still in with a chance of finishing 2nd. Currently ahead of Toulon on head to head record.

4th Toulon 77 pts - Need a draw to secure home advantage in the QFs. Still in with a chance of finishing 2nd.

5th Toulouse 73 pts – Cannot be caught by 6th, need a BP win to have any chance of home advantage in the QFs.

6th Castres 67 pts – Need to match Bordeaux in terms of match points to secure the last spot. Currently ahead of Bordeaux on head to head record.

7th Bordeaux 67 pts – Need to beat Castres in terms of match points to secure the last spot. The 7th team will go into Pot 4 of the Euro Draw.

Clermont v La Rochelle
Racing 92 v Montpellier
Toulon v Bordeaux
Castres v Stade Francais
Grenoble v Toulouse

SS2 and TV5 Monde (796) both showing games on Sun Night.

Are you sure? I have them behind RCT based on their abysmal points difference.

Top 14 different. Head to head between the sides is accounted for 1st. Both won away v each other. Both got 5 match points from the 2 games, but racing won by 5 pts and toulon by only 1Image

Thought it was h2h Pts first (as you say 5 each) but then league pd (RCT are +200) and only then h2h pd.

Hey, if Wikipedia says so, I'll not argue.

This is what the LNR themselves say.

My French is lousy so I won't try to translate.
