They've created a ridiculous supply and demand situation because they play relatively few games and generate a high level of interest amongst a huge population. Baseball is much more affordable in comparison because they play so many games.

I thought the sale of energy drinks had been prohibited to children in England so this is obviously a good example for junior players.

World Rugby, working with its research partner Nielsen Sports, has revealed final details of audience numbers from last year’s Rugby World Cup. Overall, a total audience of 857 million watched the tournament broadcast by one of the governing body’s broadcast partners, up 26 per cent from the previous tournament, played in England four years ago. The cumulative live audience was 501 million versus 479 million in 2015, while the final between South Africa and England was watched by 44.9 million – a jump of 83 per cent on the final of England 2015. According to the figures, audience growth was driven by Asia, while a move to free-to-air propelled Germany ahead of Italy and Ireland in terms of cumulative viewers as the seventh highest viewing territory.

If they're saying that Rugby League will die, it's nonsense, surely. The professional game might wither but the game will go on. Why do people identify elite sport with the actual sport. It isn't. The vast bulk of sport is amateur, low level, low quality but it is fun for players and spectators. I'd rather have fifty spectators at each of a thousand games than fifty thousand spectators at one game.

Of course there will be a reckoning, but the economy is going into recession.
Money is currently cheap and the economy will need a decent boost to avoid a really prolonged slump.
It'll be a big test of the Tories new love in with the north east of England. It's not a systemic economic problem so the boost needs to be nuanced and aimed at working families or it'll not work.

Any word on BT sports and Premier sports both in a similar position?

Just tried to cancel Premier Sports. They are happy to do this, but only to take effect at the end of the current subscription period, that is, for me, October! This could well be just in time to miss the new Pro14 season.

I agree. If ever there was a case for politicising sport it was the apartheid regime and given the importance of rugby, a great shame on the Lions for breaching the boycott.
