BM,
if you look at the penalty in the 37th minute, JVDF was inexplicably penalised by Gardner for not rolling away when he was being held on the ground by the Japanese. That cost us 3.

In the 70th minute, Murray is penalised for off side and Japan get 3 points. Murray is nowhere near off side and not interfering with play when the Japanese player is tackled.
I have to say I didn't spot this or the earlier one at the time maybe due to the pace of the action. Ireland still didn't deserve to win and good luck to Japan but you must question Gardiner and Garces.

I noticed the first one and it was described as "harsh" by the ITV commentary team.

POC criticised Henderson after the Japan game. Carbery not playing now which is probably a mercy given his last run.. Replaced by Murray.????? Pessimistically I can anticipate injuries to key players for Ireland about to happen. Despite Schmidt's claims Ireland have no strength in depth. As for Garces........the problem is that these referees are never removed or disciplined or investigated.
Rolland seems completely ineffectual in managing their performance s and interpretations.

Good to see. POC is there to analyse the game, not to act as a cheerleader for poorly performing players. Did he criticise any other players?

POC criticised Henderson and no others. He didn't, for example, offer any criticism of Murray.

Joe has taken a load of injured players and some absolute duds. A few good players are completely off form.
