justinr73 wrote: Tue Nov 17, 2020 1:42 am Out of interest, where do you draw the line?

Green blood?

Born in Ireland (which would have shafted Heaslip, Murphy, Rob Henderson, Geoghegan and others)?
ROG would also have been excluded.

There should at least be a feckin line. One Irish parent as an absolute minimum requirement. Sole exception for anybody who has lived here from the age of say 12.

Maybe there should be an interview?

Can I... play for Ireland?

No. pi$h off.

I didn't want to talk like this. It's only an accent. I hate the English as much as anybody.

Shhhh. Shhhh. Shhh. Shh. Shhhh.

Stumm.

Are you sure?

Oh, dead sure. I hate the English already.

Listen. If you wanted to join the IRFU., you'd have to really hate the English.

I do!

Oh, yeah? How much?

A lot!

You're in
I think that all sounds reasonable enough.

Burns, Aki, Gibson Park, Lowe, Herring, Stander, Roux... Really a team of mercenaries. I'm a big Herring fan btw, but it's a joke any of them can claim to be Irish and play for the national team. The residency rule is a joke.
Do they claim to be Irish, or do they represent Ireland because they live here and have committed to Ireland?

Burns and Herring qualify as both have an Irish born grandfather, not through residency if that sits better with you Jackie.

I have an English born grandfather but I'm no more English than they are Irish.

Not really, if Burns or Addison had been good enough for international rugby they'd have been capped by their country of birth.

My Grandad was Canadian and I spend a lot of time eating poutine whilst listening to Leonard Cohen.

His parents were supposed to head out on the Titanic apparently.

I’m kinda glad they didn’t.

In an international context, Farrell is Ulster.

Good to see Stander 6, Doris 8.
POM had a good game v wales, now let see him back it up - will be interesting if he has the engine/speed for 7. Of note Leavys getting his game time up for Leinster and so far playing well - if he gets back to pre injury levels then he’s a starter all day long.
Add in IH on the bench and furlong/kilcoyne back, suddenly that’s a pretty meaty pack & bench.

More chance of starting for Ireland if you're from Auckland rather than Belfast.

At least there is no ulster scapegoat on the pitch this time when the inevitable comes. Burns and hendo to come on when the game is up and hopefully they don't get crocked.
