Why was he in the SH on a meaningless tour when he could have been well on the way to recovery by now a la AT?

I'd have to disagree with the meaningless bit.

Went with a temporary coach and management team.
Newly appointed coach and manager (while there) were not part of the team set-up.
Extended length of an already hard season for players.
Did not win either game.

You imply that had they won, it would have been more meaningful.

They were test matches, they were against quality opposition. The fact that Kidney chickened out of the leadership role is not the issue. If I only had 1 cap, I think I'd want it to be against NZ.

Sounds like he could miss the Autumn internationals. Great chance for Ferris and Best to try and claim the six shirt.

BR are you expecting Kidney to take a holiday on November 15th?

From the IRFU site posted yesterday:
The Tipperary-born back rower will undergo surgery on his shoulder next week and will miss the start of Munster's Heineken Cup campaign as well as Ireland's games against Canada, New Zealand and Argentina in November.

Some things never change with IRFU, same story as Ferris last year, and Trimble and Bowe the year before and D'Arcy in the past, play players with injuries and then watch them miss half a season for no real good reason.

A loss no doubt for both Munster and Ireland. It would be great though from a Munster perspective if this encouraged them to go out and get a real number 8.Of course that wouldn't do Ireland much good in the short or long term.

I hope none of this is criticism of Munster, or even Ireland

I heard a stiff rumour that they're beyond criticism, or even debate
