This is very sad news and while I didn't know him personally I was taken aback when I read this last night.

Condolences to all concerned.

My virtual anorak has a black armband today.

My condolences to Stanley's family.

It's not too often that I'm lost for words, but I keep typing stuff and deleting it, because it doesn't do the man justice. I think I'll just sit back and re-read some of the humour (which usually contained a fair bit of wisdom) and wisdom (which usually contained a fair bit of humour) posted by Cables over the years.

So shocked to have just read this thread. My thoughts and prayers are with Stanley's family.

My association with Stanley goes back over twenty years. Not only a great supporter of Ulster Rugby, I have very fond memories of his dedication to our school's, always on hand to advise and get us to and from games in all weather when other parents did not take an interest.

Thanks for the memories.

I am greatly shocked to hear of the news of his passing. Although I only knew Stanley through his moniker 'cables' on this very site, it was clear that he was passionate about Ulster Rugby, it's history and statistics. He was a 'go-to' man so to speak for many on the board and it was always with awe I viewed his knowledgeable posts and attention to statistical detail. I'm sure that he kept perfect records on all manner of things relating to rugby.

With your passing, there is a gap on the forum and in the minds and hearts of many that cannot be replaced.

RIP :salut:

I first read this post on Saturday evening and like BR I have been unable to put into words my thoughts about the man. Still can't.
We'll miss you Cables. Condolences to the Philips family.

Just picked this up , very sad news indeed.

Stanley will be sorely missed .

We worked together for many years, went our separate ways, and then met up again on Friday nights at Ravenhill.

It just won't be the same anymore.

Have only just come across this very sad news. Shocked. I had the pleasure of meeting and chatting to Stanley on a few occasions - and picking his encyclopaedic Ulster Rugby brain on far more frequent occasion. He was an absolute gentleman and a font of knowledge - always imparted in good humour. I'd like to pass on my sincere condolences to the family circle and to his numerous friends here and further afield.

Sincerest condolences, not really sure what else to say that has not already been said. My thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.

I have found that in the short term kind words are often of little comfort to the grieving but with the passing of time the fond memories of others do help to fill part of the void that comes with losing a loved one.

Condolences to the family. Never met the man but he always helped out and accurately with my long-distance support statistics and was always polite and positive.
From the rolling glens of Antrim through the hills of Donegal we will stand and shout for Ulster as we win both scrum and maul from the lovely lakes of Fermanagh tae the shores of ould Lough Gall we will scream and shout for Ulster as we beat them one and all!
