Glad to see a somebody realises there is a difference between British and English it’s a pity many Irish don’t

While the basis for their and possibly most of those who landed on the shores of yankieland are correct( fleeing something convicts or were bonds men or slaves) most lived for many years under the protection of red coats — who were basically any sod who accepted the Kings or Queens shilling.

Most English don't see any difference either and they constitute 90% of the brand

That is true and the term "English" used to be synonymous with "British" in the not too distant past.

The point though is, that they fled to America because the English establishment were such a bunch of cnuts to them. Not dissimilar to the Ulster Scots Presbyterians in the eighteenth century and the Irish in the nineteenth century. The Yanks don't have any bother celebrating any of these groups, who they would never associate with British/English rule, and who played an intrinsic part in building modern America.

Venture above the 49th parallel - similar folk -- similar causes -- totally different attitude to Royalty and "Britishishness " recognising the folly of an electable? President rather than Monarch

Anyway the withdrawal agreement is thru the house of commons so Brexit will finally happen at the end of the month.

That's the easy bit done in only 3 years. Next they'll need to get the harder bits done in 11 months. No worries though as Boris will sort it.

Agreed Jackie, how can anyone expect these wee lambs to scrape by on 49 grand when an average nurse lives the high life on 23 grand and a new teacher starts on around the same ridiculously inflated pay. Shameful! No wonder many of them have to have two jobs.

Huge surge for Sinn Fein in our general election. Looks like they could get close to 35 seats from their 42 candidates.

Love the way both FF and FG are reluctant to work with the Shinners but they expect every other party in the North to do it.

Absolutely. I think it demonstrates what FF and FG really think of NI itself and Nordies. I'd go so far as to see that the Irish establishment think of NI the same way the British do.....a nuisance but one which can be used to one's advantage from time to time.

Yeah definitely a lot of people under 60 are sick of the old firm. Mary Lou did very well in the debates and I think a lot of people are hearing the shinners saying what they want to hear on issues like housing, health, crazy rents and general cost of living stuff.

FG have been so adamant on this I don't think they can go in with SF. I think FF could but only if they change their leader.

It is hard to call until we see how the seats play out but I suspect if FF get 50 seats minimum they'll form some kind of Govt probably with Greens and FG providing confidence and supply. That's nightmare stuff. FF is toxic and backward. It is akin to putting the RCC in charge of the country again.
