I bought one of those years ago, and once again I never got around to reading it! It takes me a while to get through books, especially during term time, but I got through a good portion of GoT during the Easter break. This is why I'm lining the GoT series for June 30th

OK I have a bent for peeler yarns, in particular Scottish ones, think its something to do with shared humour with us planters/nordies. At present jumping between Rankin's Rebus, Quintin Jardine's Skinner, Stuart MacBride's Logan McRae

Also non-Scottish, Billingham's Tom Thorne & Scottish Val McDermid's Tony Hill series & Michael Kerr's Matt Barnes series.

historical "who done it's". CJ Sansom is the author who also has a couple
of other books, "Winter in Madrid" & "Dominion" which are worth perusal.

speaking of scottish.... "The Barbershop seven", starting with 'the long midnight of barney thompson', a comedy/thriller with plenty of scots belly laughs, and some great writing.

CJ Sansom - Brilliant... a worthwhile read for the summer.

I read The Horse with My Name few years ago and thought it was pretty good.

Read another wan called Turbulent Priests recently and thought it was a complete crock of shyte - had to pack it in.

I second this. The Matthew Shardlake series is one of my favourites. The books keep getting better and better, and not once have I managed to figure out "whodunnit". It's a great combination of crime and historical fiction, and the characters are very likeable. I was hoping that Sansom would be writing another one soon, the last one was brilliant. I stumbled upon them by chance about ten years ago, and am delighted that I did!

On recommendation of a few friends, I started reading The Circle by Dave Eggers. All of the reviews of it I've seen are pretty good, so I'll reserve full judgement until later but the writing of the opening 30 pages feels a bit clumsy. Maybe it's more one of those that's more about the story than how it's told...
