yon film about the Northern Soul Scene- Soul Boy - with Martin Compston & the great and underrated Pat Short (of all people) in it, was excellent. Never a genre I thought I'd like, but the thing has a definite attraction- the whole Wigan Casino scene, the flares, dancing and the rare soul singles from USA. A hugely influential sub culture oft ignored with Glam, disco, etc.. all around a the time. I was too busy rackin' out, but age has definitely softened me lol

I too consider the Eagles to "lick balls", however there is a little of retrospect in that opinion, I once listened to that sort of thing, now I regard it almost as horrendous as country music, though I still like Jackson Browne who wrote a bit with Frey.CIMANFOREVER wrote:"I hate the f**kin' Eagles man....... Mind you speaking of ancient music, I did hear Hothouse Flowers on the wireless singing "I can see clearly now" and consider it by a distance the finest cover of the original .............which was just irritating shyte.
NEVER MOVE ON. Years on, I cannot ever watch Ireland with anything but indifference, I continue to wish for the imminent death of Donal Spring, the FIRFUC's executioner of Wee Paddy & Wee Stu, and I hate the FIRFUCs with undiminished passion.

Not my favourite genre either but has it's merits.CIMANFOREVER wrote:yon film about the Northern Soul Scene- Soul Boy - with Martin Compston & the great and underrated Pat Short (of all people) in it, was excellent. Met this auld lad called Ken a couple of weeks ago. He was Northern Soul dancing in a local bar. 72 years old and superb. He claimed to have danced professionally in his youth including regular appearances on Ready Steady Go Seemed plausible. He then proceeded to do a karaoke duet with his 97 year old mum! Life on the costas eh?

Saw the Shytehouse Flowers years ago in Mandela. Longest 90 min. Of my life. Soulless pish masquerading as MOR folk Celtic fusion ballix. Awful stuff. I didn't listen to their refrain, and did indeed "go." Between them and what the Waterboys morphed into....BaggyTrousers wrote:I too consider the Eagles to "lick balls", however there is a little of retrospect in that opinion, I once listened to that sort of thing, now I regard it almost as horrendous as country music, though I still like Jackson Browne who wrote a bit with Frey.CIMANFOREVER wrote:"I hate the f**kin' Eagles man....... Eagles were cack, but Joe Walsh on his own was quality. And any f*cker that mentions Frampton will indeed be "shown the way.."

The Eagles were a brilliant band when Felder and Walsh were both there. Possibly not to everyone's taste but as musicians they were right up there and some of their vocals were simply magnificent.CIMANFOREVER wrote:Saw the Shytehouse Flowers years ago in Mandela. Re: What are you listening to?
Kenny Rogers moved about as freely as an Ulster player after a week or two with Joe. At times, his voice was similar too but I was glad to get the chance to see the old boy.
Booked up to see Adam Ant, the Wedding Present, the Dandy Warhols, Brad Paisley and Green Day next year.
Seen 'em all before of course and it'll be tough for Green Day at Hyde Park to match their show at the splendidly named Gaylord Entertainment Centre in Nashville in 2005!

Being of an age which can remember the Light Programme and Home Service .
Music wise every genre has its good and it's sh--e never dismiss a band as Sh-t .
I have found through the years that taste actual depends not on the artist or the song more the mood of the listener and the environment . Folk music is fine in a small bar but pish in a theatre or stadium .

FFFS Ron'n, did the Leinster fans name their Babbling Bloke forum after you?rumncoke wrote:Being of an age which can remember the Light Programme and Home Service .

A few pointers:
1) Try telling Bob Dylan's early fans that folk music is pish in a theatre, he played many.
2) "never dismiss a band as shyte", what in fu@k are you talking about, let me know if you want a comprehensive list of a thousand shyte bands, pay me some good money & you get 5000.
3) When you said folk music, if you meant Irish Trad or Scottish Trad or any other, yes a session with a lough of pints in a pub can be great but you have clearly never seen The McPeake Family in the Whitla Hall, Christy Moore in Mandela Hall in the Students Union or the Parish hall in Dunloy, The Bothy Band in St Colm's Hall in Derry, Paul Brady in his previous style in a few places, even that dreary ballix Andy Irvine god help me. De Dannan in the Empire and on & on & on.
Bullshite mate.
Now that we have that out of the way, I agree that you can see someone you very much like or a stranger you've never heard and it can be so so or subloodyperb,, the mood & the ambience of the venue certainly can make or break it.
One thing I will say, more or less any live performance can be enjoyed, goes back to the bt above - but never ever country music. Let's get that straight, country music can go and kiss the high hole of my arsepiece.
One of the best nights live music I remember was the late lamented Bap Kennedy in the Bridge Bar in Ramelton Co. Donegal, he was a great fella, no more than 25 people and he might as well be singing to thousands, gave it his best which was more than adequate.

Re: What are you listening to?
Any fans of Jack White? White Stripes? The Dead Weather? The Racontuers?
I don't know anyone who has messed about with so many genres of music. I always liked the heavy bass drumming, nothing subtle about Meg and his guitar stuff is not for everyone, still he's a popular guy over a long time & many reinventions so I'm not alone. He's very loyal, still keeping his wife's surname though the divorced ages back.
Here's a well known white stripes song, enjoy bitches. Best listened to loud ...........louder than that FFS, and preferably headphones.
