Magners League Best Supported Team

Post by Rooster »

Celtic Rugby is pleased to confirm that Irish Province Leinster have retained their title as 'Best Supported Team' in the Magners League for 2007/08.
With their final home game still to come, Leinster are recording average gates of around 14,000 for this season's Magners League games, 17% up on last year's figure.

David Jordan, Director of Celtic Rugby said: "This award reflects both the hard work behind the scenes and the fact that Leinster's loyal fans are voting with their feet endorsing a brand of rugby that sees their team at the top of the Magners League."

"Across Europe only three teams, Leicester Tigers, Toulouse and Stade Francais have better average league gates this season. Leinster's move to the RDS has obviously reaped rewards; congratulations must go to everyone concerned with the Province."

"Despite the early impact of the Rugby World Cup, the Magners League has experienced a growth in attendances across the board this season, and we anticipate building on that success going forward as our teams realise plans to upgrade their stadia."

Maurice Breen, Director of Marketing and New Markets, Wm. Magner said: "We would like to offer our congratulations to everyone at Leinster, to achieve this accolade two years in a row is testament to the hard work that is put in off the field along with the loyalty of Leinster's fans. The move to the RDS has been a huge success and illustrates the hunger that exists for the brand of rugby played in the Magners League."

"Leinster's success off the pitch has mirrored results on it and we look forward to seeing another great game in front of a packed house on Saturday night as Leinster look for the win that would see them claim the Magners League trophy for the first time."
“That made me feel very special and underlined to me that Ulster is more than a team, it is a community and a rugby family"

You will never regain your crown. Leinster to be European Rugby's biggest province/club/region within 10 years.

hmmm... this may be a bit creative with statistics. Overall attendances will certainly be down this season because of the loss of the Borders games. Averages will likely be up, but it is total bums on seats that translate directly to money. Once the season is over, I'll get the spreadsheet out and do some more analysis!

I'd actually agree with this epaddy! If you look at the population within the greater Dublin area, the lack of major competition from other pro sports and availability of good facilities at the RDS and new Lansdowne, Leinster do have the potential to be there or thereabouts as the best supported team in Europe if the team can perform on the pitch.

Certainly Ulster won't be able to compete on attendances if we only have Ravenhill.

After standing in the Sportsground, Musgrave Park, Croke Park and the RDS this year i can tell you one thing, Ulster for all the tripe they've played this season still have the most vocal support.

I think you've got to factor in disposable income too, mike.

Quality over quantity, and there's no question that Ulster have the better (vocal) quality of support.
