If you were coach for a day...

Post by bangorboy »

OK, so pre season training for the majority of the team starts today. Last season was bum clenchingly exciting at times - but this year we need to aim to dominate games rather than scrape through with a last second penalty ( exciting as they were!!! ).

So if YOU were coach for a day what aspect of play would you focus on?

For me , restarts, restarts, restarts....

Just fun stuff I think, ball handling and light contact

Is this for rugby players or girlfriends?

grubber kicks!
Definately, it would be nice to see some NOT bounce off opponents legs - feet - heads - chests etc.

I'd work at a bit of counter rucking, I think we sat back and released the pressure too much - giving scrum halves time to orchestrate the next phase and the back line to get into position. When 1F drove through the centre of rucks it caused carnage and fired the lads up.

Running onto a pass from phase ball instead of standing still catching and going to ground ... you want to score tries in the red zone you don't do it from a standing start!!!!!

Ask DH/SL who has been contracted for next season.

Get them running up the sand hills again for fitness!

For me, a total rethink of what we do at the breakdown and getting everybody in the squad thinking on their feet and to know exactly what they need to do to either secure our ball or put pressure on the opposition. Perhaps learn some new black arts to aid in this? Watch how Leinster do it, copy and paste.

That was pretty much McLaugh's target while he coached us at school.

Hmmmm, I clearly remember being heartily congratulated for regurgitating my lunch & breakfast by a former International ref & past President of UB. "Well done boyyyyyyyyyyyyyy."
