Post by Freddie Benson »

by this I mean the old plain white rugby jersey with the traditional collar etc. , as worn by the A side against Rotherham earlier in the season

I just got my retro Ulster jersey from here; http://www.sumosam.com/ulster-retro-rugby-shirt/

Brill service, bought it for Saturday's game and wore it on the day. I'm a big guy so not keen on the new shirts.

Great game on Saturday.

Well it really s crap and far far far away fom being retro! As a matter of curiosity paddyoc, what age are you to describe that horrendous thing as "retro"

You could buy a plain white rugby shirt and I'm sure one of the local embroidery companies would have a suitable red hand template they could use to 'Ulsterise' it.

The Red hand has been beautifully embroidered on the front left breast.
The red hand is clearly embroidered on to a white patch which has then been sown on to the jersey!

A 70s or 80s Ulster home jersey would have the hand embroidered straight on to the jersey - and if done properly, would have ULSTER XV embroidered beneath the badge.

Saying that, the company have tried to actually produce something, unlike Ulster Rugby or Kukri.

Was thinking of the same myself. Fancied an older style shirt, altho, a 1999 type shirt, maybe not as vintage as you are looking.

Few things on ebay might be worth a look.

They also have a version with the open hand, which I think looks great - am going to pick up one for the final for sure. It is very close to the old 70s/80s shirts, such as the one worn here by Willie Anderson (if the link works). I have seen various other old ones with a more closed hand (and none of them had Ulster XV on them).
