I feel I have to write to you after reading that one of your councillors opposed the idea of the Heineken Cup Final being shown outside the City Hall. Not only did Mr Browne oppose the proposal but also said that in his opinion "rugby should be banned - because it's barbaric". Is this your party line on Ulster Rugby and if so could you explain the rationale behind it ?
I myself will be at the game, but unfortunately a lot of my friends, and fellow supporters will not be able to make the trip. It would've been great if supporters could get together and watch the game - this is something that most city councils do when their home team makes it to such a prestigious event.
Is Mr Browne also opposed to cage fighting, which was featured recently in the Ulster Hall, I would suppose that he's not as that particular event went ahead. Perhaps his view of "barbaric" sports is a bit different from most of your constituents' , I await your reply.

Might I suggest SLH that all you have done is give him the attention he craves and drawn further attention to his views. Sometimes extreme views or stupid views need to be challenged, but this is not one of them.
Had you written to the party asking simply for their support in getting the big screen used for this, it would have achieved as much as the party could use such letters to justify any expense, citing public opinion. Instead they now have to find a way of replying to you while minimising intra-party differences of opinion and embarrassment.
Without your letter they could ignore one of their own who holds a different point of view, with your letter, they may feel the need to respond but allow him some face-saving get-out. Personally I think eejits like Browne should just be ignored.
But what would I know? we are all entitled to express our views ....... even thon eejit Browne
