Tries from Paddy Jackson, Luke Marshall (2), John Afoa, Dan Tuohy, Sean Doyle and Andrew Trimble gave Ulster a comfortable victory against a Treviso side who will go home with a lot of questions to be answered.

It didn’t take long for Ulster to get their first try of the evening as a two-man overlap was exploited by Darren Cave who offloaded to Paddy Jackson to score in the corner.

Ulster had their second try within twenty minutes after Luke Marshall received another off-load from Darren Cave and rounded off a quick counter-attack which began from inside the Ulster half.

And the hosts continued to torment their visitors by keeping up their try scoring habit as John Afoa took the ball at pace and bounced off two defenders to cross under the posts for the third try of the evening.

Ulster nearly had the bonus point wrapped up before half-time as a driving maul was collapsed just short of the line, however they had to settle for just a penalty from the boot of Jackson to take them into half-time at 22-0.

Despite being outscored in the first half, Treviso came out fighting in the second half and were the better side for the first fifteen minutes, aided by the sin-binning of Luke Marshall for slowing the ball down near the line.

They couldn’t make this advantage pay though and Ulster managed to claw their way back into the game through their strong scrum, clearing their lines.

And despite being down to fourteen men, the Ulstermen wrapped up the bonus point through Dan Tuohy who broke clear then got the ball back from Darren Cave to dot down under the posts.

From there the home side ran riot. It was a memorable night for Sean Doyle who was the beneficiary of Ruan Pienaar’s line break and pass, and he capped his first try for the province with a Chris Ashton-esque swan dive to score.

Andrew Trimble then scored arguably the try of the evening as a quick tap penalty taken by Luke Marshall made its way to the wing and Trimble managed to evade the covering defender and avoid the touchline to place the ball down in the corner.

And the scoring was rounded up with a length-of-the-pitch try, as an inside flick from substitute David McIlwaine set away Jackson who found Luke Marshall on the wing, and the centre crossed for his second try of the night.

Treviso threatened to ruin the Ulster party by scoring with the last play of the game, but Michele Campagnaro ignored a three-man overlap on the outside and the move broke down handing Ulster a shut-out win.

The win gives Ulster a temporary seven-point lead in Pool Five and as the sides meet next week in the return match of this December double-header, another win for Ulster like this one would surely put one foot in the quarter-finals.
