Yes, it would almost seem that is what they are aiming for.Snipe Watson wrote:I suspect we will have a Desso GrassMaster pitch before long.BR wrote:So the pitch IS buggered as we suspected. Someone should be telling us how the Feck they let that happen!

Well we have fantastic backs. A fake pitch would help us win more titles

I think it’s inconceivable that the quality of the playing surface wouldn’t have been considered in the planning for New Ravenhill. I don’t think I’d like to see a fully synthetic G pitch at Ravenhill though.

Yes looks like they may be at Queen's. The arena pitch will host the sigerson (gaa)final this weekend which attracts big numbers, and would comfortably accommodate 1000, with about 500 seated in the new stand.
Re: Schools Cup 2014
Catchphrase said he expected to have an artificial pitch within 5 years (was it?). With that in mind, I wonder how much concern was taken over preserving the pitch quality?Snipe Watson wrote:I think it’s inconceivable that the quality of the playing surface wouldn’t have been considered in the planning for New Ravenhill. It has been considered and the most likely option (currently, but it could change) is to have a partial artificial.Snipe Watson wrote:I think it’s inconceivable that the quality of the playing surface wouldn’t have been considered in the planning for New Ravenhill. I think you are right on the timescale - the only qualifier I would add (as above) is that he wasn't talking about replacing the whole pitch .... unless you've heard an update since I have.BR wrote:Catchphrase said he expected to have an artificial pitch within 5 years (was it?).

My memory is that he expected plastic to be the norm within a particular timescale and that Ravenhill would have 'at least some' plastic within that period.Cap'n Grumpy wrote:I think you are right on the timescale - the only qualifier I would add (as above) is that he wasn't talking about replacing the whole pitch .... unless you've heard an update since I have.BR wrote:Catchphrase said he expected to have an artificial pitch within 5 years (was it?).

You mean like the Desso GrassMaster I mentioned about 10 posts ago?Cap'n Grumpy wrote:It has been considered and the most likely option (currently, but it could change) is to have a partial artificial.Snipe Watson wrote:I think it’s inconceivable that the quality of the playing surface wouldn’t have been considered in the planning for New Ravenhill. Re: Schools Cup 2014
A Desso Grassmaster is most probable, would the slope allow a full synthetic surface ? I have my doubts as there are pretty tight limits on gradients for a 3G

Don't know but I know the limits for full synthetic are 1:100Snipe Watson wrote:How much slope is there?Rooster wrote:A Desso Grassmaster is most probable, would the slope allow a full synthetic surface ? I have my doubts as there are pretty tight limits on gradients for a 3G

Re: Schools Cup 2014
Whilst the pitch may obviously not be in great condition, the reason that the semi finals of School's Cup are being outsourced is that the builders need every living minute to get building completed for approval and for Quarter final against Sarries. Really, if 2 semis, the subsidiary final and the Medallion final were to be played at Ravenhill, then they would more or less lose 4 days work.
PS there were around 2600 at the first semi final last year.
