Stuart Scumbag Barnes

Post by StandUp »

As a very long time lurker I could never really be arsed to actually register and create a post. I just checked in now and then to sift through the mountains of horsesh1t to try and find the occasional nugget. Until today! Today I ruined my evening by watching Mairead Boujallilli buy his third European Cup. That was bad enough but following the magnificent Abendanon's try at 63:06 on the match clock Stuart the f*cking scrote Barnes says; "Carl Hayman has to take one pace to his right (to block the try), I know its cynical but this is professional rugby".
This is a Sky commentator being totally perplexed as to why a sportsman did not cheat!
How do I explain to my ten year old rugby playing son (with a burgeoning interest in f#cking nancyball) that that kind of play is not what we want in rugby.
Where is the difference between that kind of cheating and Lance the pharmceutical factory Armstrong about whom everyone chose to be disgusted about?
More importantly does Sky tv endorse those comments and if not will they do anything about it?
Count yourselves lucky im three sheets gone and am bored with typing this sh@t otherwise this would have been a REAL rant.
Going to bed now.

Excellent first post, hang around and give us more of your wisdom
I used to like Barnes but that really put me off him yesterday, was a disgraceful comment to make.

I think Barnes also ignores the fact that if Carl Hayman does step in front of Abendanon then he gets a yellow card and concedes a penalty try, so actually Hayman did the right thing.

I still like Barnes as a pundit but that comment was madness.
You haven't seen me at my best yet. Let's be honest, you probably never will.

Also a first time poster.
Barnes is usually a decent pundit, but he's like just about every referee in that he is inconsistent and suffers badly from brainfarts.

That he kept mentioning it shows how disappointed he was that no foul play occurred.

I didn't see or hear anything about a tip tackle. If Barnes had seen it I'm sure he would have commended the good work.

I think what he was really getting at was that Carl Hayman actually didn't stand his ground but actually deliberately got out of the way. What Barnes was actually spot on about was that no one in the Toulon defensive line had registered that Halfpenny was on kick chase and therefore there was no sweeper at home. Had that been registered I'm sure Hayman would have stood his ground.
Barnes is steeped in the bludgeoning, plodding English game and his commentary reflects this. Hayman did indeed do the right thing, had he moved towards Abendanon or stood his ground he was taking a chance on conceding the penalty try and yellow card. Toulon are a well coached team and he would have been expecting a sweeper to be there, even in Halfpenny's absence. I think he did the prudent thing and showed that he knows more than Barnes and that's why he was the best prop in the game for years and Barnes was a poor international flyhalf who's tactical thinking was subject even then.

Just because it didn't happen doesn't mean that Russ didn't see it. Russ, former prop, specialises in unseen work......

Had it been Barnes himself he would have taken him out without moving. His backside, when a player, put props of that era to shame.
