John Cooney would be the man between those two in the pecking order.
Now he would be a very tidy 2nd choice scrum half for us, probably more consistent and controlled than Marmion. I'm pretty sure that Leinster are after him.

I would add that Porter's 4th choice at Connacht, Caolin Blade's ahead of him.

Ian is entering Sam Windsor levels of usefulness ... are Connacht paying him 70k a year?

So Dave Porter & young Dave (surname undisclosed from England), all that remains is the identity of the Dave 8 coming north.

Just as well we didn't sign Dave Pocock, he'd have had to change his name, probably the deal breaker.

Anyone know if his mates call Treadwell Dave?

Cooney would indeed be an excellent signing but for a couple of things, smallP still has 2 seasons???? still to run on his current deal and the second thing Ulster don't have a great record of signing squad players especially over the last few seasons and particularly when that position is either 9 or 10....

at 9 Michael Heaney( Heaney maybe twice), Ian Porter, Blane McIlroy, SmallP, Paul Rowley and Dave Shanahan.

at 10 NO'C (twice), Ian Humphreys (twice), James McKinney (twice I think), Sean O'Hagan (released after one season  )
and The Duke/Barbara Windsor.

Sorry for depressing everyone but that is a serious amount of dross bar 1 maybe 2 that we have signed in key areas, now can you see why I doubt we'll get Cooney.

Sure he's bound to have a get out clause and why anyone would want to leave Connacht at the moment especially for the 3rd/4th province :duck:

Ulster signed said wasters, it's Ulster's own fault, though the question should be asked how have we signed so many.

Still think Bryn will sign his fair share of dross, just hopefully not as much, though I'm convinced that Coetzee and Charlie will look distinctly average after a season or 2 of being coached by the UR set up
